Job Description:

The Sea Around Us project was initiated in 1999 to study the impact of fisheries on the marine ecosystems of the world, and to offer mitigating solutions to a range of stakeholders. We do this through analyses & visualizations, articles in peer-reviewed journals and other media. We regularly update our products at the scale of countries’ Exclusive Economic Zones, Large Marine Ecosystems, the High Seas and other spatial scales, and as global maps and summaries. We emphasize catch time series starting in 1950, and related series (e.g., catch value and catch by fishing gear or flag state), and fisheries-related information on every maritime country (e.g., government subsidies, marine protected areas, marine biodiversity).

We seek a Research Associate to lead research and publication efforts regarding the global analyses of marine protected areas, fisheries catch reconstructions, and other ongoing and upcoming research activities of the Project, including across all members and research directions of the Sea Around Us Project. Duties will also include mentoring MSc and PhD students, contributing to securing funding for the Project, and other project activities as determined from time to time.
