About this role:
Reporting to the Director of Finance and Administration, the HR Generalist will originate and lead HR practices and objectives that will provide an employee-oriented, high performance culture that emphasizes empowerment, quality, goal attainment and the recruitment and ongoing development of the workforce. The Human Resources generalist is responsible for all or part of the following duties:
- Develop and provide recommendations for policies and procedures
- Communicate policies, procedures, laws, standards and regulations to management and staff
- Ensure compliance to regulatory concerns and reporting
- Provide resolutions to employee relation issues (e.g. employee complaints and harassment allegations)
- Develop recruiting and staffing strategies and assist with the screening and selection of well qualified candidates
- Overseeing adequate employee orientation, development and training
- Maintain office policies and procedures according to governing regulations and reporting requirements
- Manage salary structure, position documentation and an evaluation system
- Facilitate the performance management process including coaching managers to establish specific objectives and assisting with performance reviews
- Administer and educate employees on their benefits package
- Ensure effective exit interviews and provide management with analysis and recommendations
- Ensure that job descriptions and HR templates are current
- Recommend, develop and maintain human resource data bases, computer software systems, manual and electronic filing systems
- Chair the Health and Safety Committee and ensure compliance and appropriate processes
- Provide research as requested
- Maintain a sustainable relationship with union officials and oversee the adherence to wages, working hours and other regulations
- Complete other duties and projects as assigned
About you:
You are a very experienced professional with the following qualifications:
- You are deeply passionate about environmental and social justice and understand the challenge and complexity of Ecojustice’s work
- Your loyalty, intelligence and compassion are matched only by your solid work ethic, good grammar and sense of humour
- Degree or diploma in Human Resources or relevant experience.
- CHRP designation
- A minimum of 3 years progressive HR experience involving a variety of functions
- Experience with HRIS systems, recruitment, policy development, basic research skills
- Experience in a not- for -profit, and /or union environment preferred
- Team player/builder that displays initiative, creativity, tact, diplomacy and sensitivity to understanding various ways of communicating messages to diverse and varied audiences
