The Riverwood Conservancy is seeking a Human Resources Specialist
In this new part-time, 15 hours per month contract position, the Human Resources Specialist works with the Executive Director and the Manager of Organizational Development and Volunteers
to coordinate various employment aspects for The Riverwood Conservancy.
About The Riverwood Conservancy
The Riverwood Conservancy (TRC) is a member and volunteer-based charity located in Mississauga at Riverwood, a rare natural area along the Credit River. This is an exceptional time for TRC which has experienced growth in community demand for our programs in environmental education, conservation / natural areas stewardship and gardening / horticulture. Staff has grown in parallel and incrementally, resulting in the need for a Human Resources Specialist.
About the candidate
You are a human resource specialist with 3 to 5 years of direct, hands-on experience and working knowledge of all federal and provincial legislation governing human resources including the Ontario Employment Standards Act and the Ontario Human Rights Code. You are familiar with the not-for-profit sector and comfortable working with volunteers. You have initiative, are resourceful, accountable, articulate, comfortable working independently and as part of a team. You are a person of integrity who extols privacy and confidentiality, a professional who makes wise use of limited time and budget.
Human Resources (HR) Specialist responsibilities
 Coordinate all contracts for staff and purchased services on a calendar year basis;
 Follow and be up to date on all required workplace legislation and create implementation and training plans as needed;
 Work with the Executive Director, the Manager of Organizational Development and HR Committee to:
o review all policies governing HR for content, consistency of procedures and processes, and potential changes related to government legislation; recommend edits and changes to the Executive Director;
o review and revise the TRC Employment Handbook;
o establish a formal structure to evaluate staff performance and compensation;
o review the staff health plan on an annual basis.
Qualifications
 Minimum 3 to 5 years demonstrated experience in human resources;
 Comprehensive knowledge of all HR and employment legislation at the federal and provincial levels; the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA), and the Not-for Profit Corporations Act (Ontario);
 Competence in standard software e.g. Office suite;
 Experience working with volunteers and committees;
 Strong interpersonal skills that inspire confidence and trust;
 Strong analytical, decision-making and problem-solving skills with attention to detail;
 Organized, with an ability to multi-task and manage a diversity of assignments;
 Calm, patient and able to meet deadlines;
 Strong written and oral communication skills.
Compensation: This is a 15 hour per month contract position with annual fee of $3,600. The opportunity for this position to grow with benefits exists.
