Under the direction and guidance of the Research Manager, the Marine Protected Area (MPA) Coordinator will be primarily responsible for (1) supporting the management and monitoring of existing MPA’s; (2) supporting the examination of other potential candidate ecosystem MPAs in the Beaufort Sea; and (3) ensuring linkages between complimentary regional processes. The position will take on a variety of monitoring and policy initiatives that will be useful for the management of MPAs. Additionally, the position will conduct assessments to identify potential areas which could be negatively affected as a result of resource development, climate, environmental, health, social, cultural and economic change throughout the Beaufort Large Ocean Management Area (LOMA).
The ideal candidate for this position will have successfully completed at Bachelor’s degree in physical, social sciences or related fields. A Master’s level qualification is preferred. Equivalent qualifications and experience will be considered.
Experience with computer software including MS Office, presentation software (PowerPoint), geographic information systems, database and spreadsheet programs; and
Experience in project management, budgeting and associated guidelines (i.e. Oceans Act, Integrated Oceans Management Plan, Community Conservation Plans); and
Experience working with Indigenous communities and organizations; and
Knowledge of arctic marine ecosystems, community engagement strategies and the Inuvialuit Settlement Region.
Relocation support to/from Inuvik is available.
Priority consideration will be given to beneficiaries of the Inuvialuit Final Agreement.
