Job Description

**This position would begin asap and last until until December 2017 (weather/work load permitting). Ideally, the contract will be renewed in March 2018.**

Summary:

Quiet Nature’s Naturalization division works alongside other trades and contractors to enhance, restore and create natural spaces. Our projects include; naturalizing stormwater ponds, planting trees in residential and commercial areas, creating meadow and prairie habitat, and woodlot enhancement on rural properties. Projects can last from a few days to several weeks, and typically involve planting several thousand native trees and shrubs.

The Naturalization Division Lead Hand is a nature-lovin’ people person, who is self motivated and focused, with top-notch communication and organizational skills. They thrive under pressure and are excited by a challenge, and the opportunity to learn new skills. Under the guidance of the Naturalization Division Manager, the Lead Hand will assist with running an efficient, productive, and safe jobsite. Their main responsibility is understanding the overall scope and process of each project, leading/instructing the crew, quality control, and planting.

Job Duties:

  • Receive daily instructions from Naturalization Division Manager
  • Lead a crew of 2-6 people
  • Assist with loading and unloading equipment 
  • Load and unload plant material by hand or with equipment
  • Assist with plant layout, planting, mulching and staking
  • Operate power tools/equipment including, but not limited to; line trimmers, gas powered augers, power drills, chainsaw
  • Use a variety of planting/gardening hand tools
  • Conduct daily inspections and maintenance on vehicles, tools, and equipment
  • Assist the manager in other work-related duties including construction projects, nursery maintenance, shop and yard maintenance, vehicle and equipment maintenance
  • Maintain a safe and organized jobsite
  • Comply with all company policies and regulations
  • Work in accordance with all local health and safety laws and regulations
  • Assist other Quiet Nature crews when required
  • Potting/seeding/weeding/irrigating and cleanup of the plant nursery when required.

Requirements:

  • Valid G driver’s license and safe driving record
  • Experience/knowledge gained in a field related to Construction/Landscaping
  • Minimum 2 years experience with related job duties
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Ability to work independently with little supervision
  • Willingness to lean equipment operation

Work Conditions:

  • Fast paced
  • In close proximity to equipment
  • Often loud, dusty, hot, rainy, cold, and/or wet!
  • Able to walk, stand, crouch for long periods of time and carry out strenuous tasks
  • 10 hour days Monday to Friday, and occasional Saturdays
