Restaurant Manager, Churchill, Manitoba

Want to spend your fall in the land of the polar bears? Traders Table is seeking experienced restaurant manager to assist with the preparation and serving of meals for tour groups during the polar bear season in Churchill, Manitoba. The manager and staff provides food for more than 125 people daily for seven-week season. This is an independent contractor position from early October through late November and includes transportation to Churchill and lodging for the duration of the contract.

Each day, tour groups spend time on the tundra viewing polar bears from a rover and lunch and dinner are served on the rover. The manager will work in the kitchen to prepare and pack meals for each of the groups traveling on the tundra that day. The kitchen staff also prepares buffet meals for the guests in in the restaurant.

Sample responsibilities of this position may include, but are not limited to, the following: • Oversee an entire restaurant team, managing schedules and reservations • Create innovative menus with variety and balance in food items. • Order food products and control costs and ingredient inventory to minimize waste • Accept and accommodate special dietary needs • Wash dishes, bus tables and maintain a clean work area • Deliver food items on time • Manage leftovers effectively • Communicate in a friendly manner with guests, guides and community members

Requirements: Legally authorized to work in Canada. The ideal candidates will have at least 4 years’ experience in a kitchen setting. Experience in the travel industry (lodges, ships, etc.) and/or remote setting highly preferred. Fluency in English. Ability to walk, stand and/or bend continuously to perform essential job functions. Ability to work under pressure and deal with stressful situations during busy periods. Ability to make independent decisions and respond to the needs of guests. Ability to work overnight if necessary. Excellent communication, interpersonal and organizational skills. High levels of integrity, maturity, patience and enthusiasm. Ability to work individually and as part of a team.

ABOUT CHURCHILL Churchill is located in northern Manitoba on the west shore of Hudson Bay. It is accessible only by rail and plane.
