Job Description

WILDLIFE BIOLOGIST Joint Secretariat – Wildlife Management Advisory Council (NWT)

The Joint Secretariat is seeking a dynamic individual with training or experience in wildlife management and office administration to help the Wildlife Management Advisory Council NWT (WMAC NWT) meet its obligations under the Inuvialuit Final Agreement (IFA).

Reporting to the Executive Director and WMAC NWT Chair, the Wildlife Biologist will work as part of a team to organize the delivery of tasks to ensure that WMAC NWT responsibilities are being met. Good verbal, writing and word processing skills are essential as the incumbent must have the ability to effectively interpret and communicate technical materials to both technical and non-technical partners. The job also includes report-writing, meeting and workshop coordination as well as general office administration. Familiarity with basic financial management is desirable, and knowledge of regional and local wildlife issues, including species at risk and conservation biology and harvest management practices, is essential.

Applicants must have a degree in the natural sciences from a recognized post-secondary institution in Ecology, Biology, Wildlife Management, Environmental Studies, Environmental Sciences, Resource Management or other science related to the position. They should be well-organized, capable of dealing with diverse interests and should possess the ability to handle a considerable workload.

Applicants must be willing to live in Inuvik, N.W.T. and to travel within the Inuvialuit Settlement Region. Preference will be given to qualified Inuvialuit applicants. Salary scale will be commensurate with the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate. The benefits package includes a Settlement Allowance of $5,425. Housing Allowance of $6,000. Pension Benefit of 6% of base salary (all benefits are per annum). There is also a Vacation Travel Benefit of $4,000 after one year on the job. A detailed job description is available upon request.
