Our Story
Yes, there really is a log workcabin that inspired the brand WorkCabin. The old workcabin in the forest is now crumbling. But it's still a symbol of our connection to nature.
WorkCabin was founded by conservationists Gregg and Dana McLachlan. No strangers to nature, they own a large pine and hardwood forest where they work to preserve, restore and protect habitat as part of a provincially-approved conservation plan. Their values of preserve, restore and protect are integral to WorkCabin's brand promise.
Today, WorkCabin, a privately held company, has a reach that spans across Canada. Rapid growth has made the service one of the country's fastest growing professional-level niche job sites.
OUR BRAND PROMISE
WorkCabin is the trusted leader in linking the best candidates to high quality employers' work opportunities that preserve, protect and restore biodiversity and the environment.
WHO WE ARE
General Manager & Founder
Gregg McLachlan is a lifelong amateur naturalist, kayaker and diehard tree planter who spent more than two decades working in media, much of it at the senior management level. Throughout his award-winning media career, he put great emphasis on environmental reporting. Ironically, before pursuing education in media studies, he briefly studied environmental engineering but decided to change paths (you don't have to remind him that environmental engineering is one of today's hottest green careers!). He's a Director on the board of the Long Point World Biosphere Reserve, a member of the Professional Association of Resume Writers & Career Coaches, and Certified Professional Resume Writer (CPRW). He also works as a communications consultant to small and medium nonprofits and businesses.
Office Administrator
Dana McLachlan is highly connected to the conservation sector. Her background is in human resources and office administration for an Ontario conservation authority. She has unique insights into employment trends in the environmental sector. She saw a need for a professional-level job site dedicated to environmental, eco and green jobs in Canada after being asked time and time again by new and recent graduates where they could find quality environmental jobs appropriate to their qualifications and skills. (The words that grads continually emphasized were quality and appropriate.) She's also a member of the Norfolk Woodlot Owners Association, a stewardship group dedicated to forestry.
