Assistant Project Manager – Wetlands Workforce
We are pleased to announce this exciting opportunity for you to join our team and make a BIG impact on watershed and wetland health in B.C. The Wetlands Workforce (WW) project will deploy work pods in the field to support the maintenance, monitoring and inventory of restored wetland sites across B.C., engage in planning activities related to the restoration of future wetland restoration sites and inventory of natural wetland sites for the development of better wetland management tools. The WW Project is supported through the Province of BC’s economic stimulus fund to provide temporary employment for a minimum of 100 people. Work pod activities will be supported in part by direct employment as well as multiple sub-contracts provided to partnering conservation organizations across the Province.

Role Details
Reporting to the Wetlands Workforce Project Manager and the Director of Conservation Stewardship, the Assistant Project Manager will support implementation of the new WW project and provide day-to-day logistics, communications, strategy implementation and reporting support to the WW team.
This is a full-time, contracted position starting from hiring date and ending December 15, 2021. Occasional evenings, weekends and/or extended hours may be required to accommodate activities and events. At the current time, there is no clear opportunity for extension as this is a one-time fund.
You will be expected to primarily work remotely (e.g., home office), collaborating virtually with BCWF’s team, partners, funders and First Nations communities. Travel to our Surrey office and around the province during the field season may be required. Applicants living outside of the Lower Mainland, but in British Columbia, will be considered.
Wage Range: $ 22-28 / hour (to be reviewed based on experience)
Core Responsibilities
• Support WW project implementation, foster positive learning and growth of the WW team.
• Maintain master project schedule, delegate tasks and resources to team members.
• Act in the role of Project Manager in their absence
• Liaise with participating partners and provide administrative support as required.
• Provide support on budget management and procurement.
• Prepare and review policies, Standard Operating Procedures, interim and final reporting.
• Support recruitment and training of staff and field contractors.
• Ensure adherence of standards by work crews.
• Engage, and work closely with a liaison, to communicate and involve First Nations whose traditional territories overlap with project sites.
• Coordinate with the BCWF communications department and designated WW staff to share success stories in relevant journals, magazines, newsletters and social media.
• Report to funders as required.
Competencies and Skills
Work Experience:
- Minimum 3 years of leadership and project management experience including:
- Coordinating and task scheduling for a team of 10+
- Managing independent project budgets (I.e., at scales greater than $75K)
- Developing and implementing standard operating procedures
- Utilizing project management tools and platforms (e.g. MS Projects)
- Promoting positive team dynamics
- Experience in recruitment and HR support.
- Experience in environmental field work, field safety plans, and working with First Nations and indigenous peoples is an asset.
- Charity/Non-Profit experience is an asset.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Knowledge of conservation and environmental regulations.
- Self-starter, well organized, analytical, flexible, and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines.
- Good interpersonal skills with ability to work in a dynamic, multi-faceted team environment.
- Demonstrate ability in effective oral and written communications.
- Experience working with a large team and communicating with boards and/or decision makers.
- Knowledge of workplace safety and relevant protocols is an asset.
- Strong personal alignment with BCWF’s mission, goals and values.
Education:
- Post-secondary education in a related field of Business Management, Environmental Studies or equivalent training.
- PMP certification is an asset.
