Job Description: Based at the National Office of the Canadian Institute of Forestry/Institut forestier du Canada (CIF-IFC) the primary goal of the National Forest Week Engagement Coordinator will be to assist in the coordination of National Forest Week (September 19-25, 2021) activities and communication materials. Each year, the CIF-IFC coordinates a national campaign with the objectives of: encouraging a greater public awareness of Canada’s forests as a valuable, renewable and green resource; challenging Canadians to learn more about the forest sector, and its significance to our culture, history, and future; and instilling pride in Canada’s forest sector. This position will support efforts to promote National Forest Week by engaging with stakeholders to raise awareness of Canada’s important forest legacy, forest education and sustainable forest management.
Duration: 13-Week Contract
Location: Mattawa, Ontario (working remotely may be accepted)
Job Responsibilities:
- Lead engagement efforts with stakeholders including municipalities, partners, affiliates as well as CIF-IFC members and the public in order to raise the profile and awareness of National Forest Week
- Support the national distribution efforts of National Forest Week promotional materials across Canada
- Liaise with professionals and practitioners across the forest sector to support better recognition of National Forest Week, and activities taking place regionally and locally
- Assist CIF-IFC staff in the development and planning of National Forest Week activities including but not limited to: online contests, polls, online webinars etc. These activities seek to facilitate engagement and promote knowledge exchange regarding Canada’s forests and forest sector
- Assist CIF-IFC staff in developing communication materials that convey complex information into plain language infographics, graphics, etc.
- Develop social media content for National Forest Week that includes the latest scientific facts and research on timely and relevant forestry topics
Who can qualify? A Canadian Citizen, Permanent Resident or Refugee status, and currently registered in a recognized post-secondary institution.
Successful candidates will have knowledge of:
- Activity and event planning.
- Strong communication (written/verbal), and analytical skills (Bilingual in French/English is an asset).
- Experience working with a range of stakeholders or interest groups; good interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in MS Office applications.
- Experience with graphic design programs is an asset.
- Experience creating social media content is an asset.
- Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
- Flexible, organized, enthusiastic, a team-player and self-motivated.
