Partnership Development Manager
The Canadian Wildlife Federation (CWF) is a national not-for-profit charitable organization dedicated to ensuring an appreciation of our natural world and a lasting legacy of healthy wildlife and habitat. Purpose and General Description:
The Partnership Development Manager is a passionate, goal-oriented fundraising professional who will build out and execute on our national fundraising strategy. The candidate for this role will have relevant experience in identifying, pursuing and establishing new, well-aligned funding partner relationships with corporations, foundations and high net-worth individuals. The candidate will also have experience in maintaining, cultivating and growing existing partnerships. With strong oral and written communication skills, the Partnership Development Manager will not only have strong skills in written communications and grant writing, but also thrive in the art of relationship building (both in-person and over the phone), creating win-win opportunities for our partners and the organization that ultimately result in long term relationships and multi-year donations through collaborations.
Reporting Relationships
The Partnership Development Manager reports directly to the Director, Corporate Development and Strategic Partnerships and will work closely with other CWF staff, contractors, partners and supporters.
Responsibilities Include:
Core Responsibilities
- Reach individual annual revenue goals, and support organization’s overall revenue goals, by executing and building upon existing fundraising strategies and relationships.
- Research, prospect, pursue, solicit, secure, and steward funding partners and donors (corporations, foundations, and high net-worth individuals) across Canada.
- Research, identify, prepare, write, complete and submit grant proposals from partners and prospective partners.
- Complete reporting metrics associated with executed grants by collaborating with the Conservation and
- Education teams to collect data and supporting materials necessary to fulfill requirements.
- Conduct proactive, cold outreach to identify and source new streams of revenue and new partnerships.
- Cultivate and steward existing partnerships, identifying new areas of alignment to pursue and grow.
- Secure program and unrestricted funding to support our mission.
- Collaborate across all program teams and leadership as necessary. Work closely with Programs and Education departments for updates, program and reporting needs, to coordinate site visits, etc.
- Develop printed and digital materials.
- Data entry, proposal and grant submission, and other administrative duties as defined below.
Support and assist in other activities of the Corporate Development and Strategic Partnerships department as needed.
Grant and Partnership Development, Administration and Monitoring (20%)
- Monitor existing grants and other business relationships for compliance with agreements and CWF policies and procedures.
- Ensure complete, accurate and timely data and information is maintained in the grants’ data management system. Work with system administrators to resolve recording issues and recommend system improvements and efficiencies as needed.
- Liaise with grant-making organizations and other stakeholders.
- Maintain and update a variety of databases on a routine basis and supported by CWF’s IT department.
- Maintain moves management and prospect tracking systems to record, monitor and measure related fundraising activities.
- Assist in providing timely, accurate and relevant reporting, including budgeted to actual comparisons and status reports.
- Maintain hard copy and electronic agreements and related files.
- Provide other administrative support as directed.
Grant and Proposal Writing & Reporting (50%)
- Perform research into grant-making and proposals for organizations.
- Writes effective proposals/applications that display exceptional attention to detail and meticulous grammar and spelling.
- Ability to incorporate accurate and pertinent information from a variety of sources into the proposal or application.
- Interfacing and communicating with individuals at all levels of the organization.
- Adheres to guidelines and direction given by the Director and/or project lead.
- Tracks project deliverables and reporting deadlines and coordinates preparation and delivery of interim and final reports in coordination with project lead.
- Demonstrated knowledge of grant application processes.
Director Support & Prospect Identification & Research (20%)
- Support the Director, Corporate Development and Strategic Partnerships in developing new strategies for increased and enhanced prospecting activities and related database management and ensure robust development of the prospect pipeline.
- Identify and qualify foundation, corporation, governmental, and major gift prospects using industry best practices.
- Rate donors and prospects in terms of inclination and capacity to give, and consult with other CWF development staff on cultivation and solicitation strategies.
- Conduct biographical and financial research on donors utilizing in-house files and a variety of on-line, electronic and print resources.
- Write confidential research profiles on both institutional and individual donors for meetings and strategy planning, and prepare briefings for development events.
- Monitor and communicate news, events and issues that impact on CWF’s fundraising strategies and the philanthropic environment.
Monthly & Annual Reporting (10%)
- Completes and submits monthly and annual fundraising reports as required by multiple CWF stakeholders.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or related field. Equivalencies considered.
- 4-6 years’ directly related experience.
- Previous experience with grant management systems and software.
- Team player and ability to work cooperatively with internal and external stakeholders and partners.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
- Highly organized and ability to multi-task, prioritize, and adapt to changing priorities.
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving abilities.
- Demonstrated ability to handle confidential and sensitive information.
- Strong Microsoft Office, CRM and data/pipeline management skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in a non-profit organization.
- Experience working in an environmental/conservation organization.
- Demonstrated experience with Raiser’s Edge, Sage 300, and Sales Force software.
- Demonstrated prospect research skills.
- Creative writing skills.

- Full-time, permanent position.
- Location: Ideally, we would like the candidate to work from Head Office in Ottawa, ON.
- If work location is Head Office, we offer temporary work-from-home flexibility during COVID-19.
