Summary of Functions
Reporting to the Senior Specialist – Landscape Science, this position will support the Landscape Science program. Major roles include research, analysis and tool development to guide restoration and protection of the Credit River Watershed Natural Heritage System.
Eligibility Requirements
Post-Secondary education in ecology, geography, environmental studies, physical sciences or related field
Demonstrated knowledge in landscape ecology, climate change, environmental sciences, and resource management principles
Knowledge of GIS concepts and practices with emphasis on ESRI products
Familiarity with flora and fauna of the Credit River watershed and southern Ontario
Experience with analysis of ecological datasets considered an asset
Ability to research and report on topical scientific issues
Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the production and review of technical documents
Experience with Microsoft Office Suite Software (e.g. Word, Excel, Access).
Must have a valid Class ‘G’ Driver’s License. The successful applicant will be required to provide an MTO Driver’s Abstract.
Summary of Major Tasks
Perform the following tasks under limited direction:
· Conduct research and landscape analyses to support the Natural Heritage System
· Assist with project planning and development of mapping tools
· Support assessment of future natural heritage conditions for CVC’s Watershed Plan
· Support research and guidance development for CVC Climate Change Strategy team
· Support the update and management of natural heritage GIS datasets (e.g. Credit River Watershed Natural Heritage System, Road Ecology datasets)
· Work on cross-departmental teams with GIS staff on the development of landscape science mapping products and GIS statistics
· Support with report writing and editing for Landscape Science projects
· Partner with internal and external clients to transfer watershed science information across groups
· Assist with literature reviews and information management
Anticipated Start and End Dates: July 11, 2022 to September 15, 2023 (35 hours / week)
Annual Salary Starting At: $60,907 year and will be commensurate with experience
