Summary of Functions
The position is responsible for developing and executing marketing communications plans and campaigns that promote CVC’s brand and operating strategies, programs and services. The position creates, leads and manages communications, marketing, digital marketing and social media campaigns that deliver measurable results for client departments and CVC corporately. It works in a collaborative team of marketing communications and digital design professionals, directly supervising three marketing communications staff.
Eligibility Requirements
Education
- University education in Public Relations, Marketing, Communications, Business or Public Administration, or related discipline
Experience
- Minimum 5 years related experience in communications, marketing and/or integrated marketing communications with demonstrated supervisory experience
- Solid media, communications, traditional and digital marketing, campaign development execution and experience
- Demonstrated experience working with all staff levels
- Digital marketing and customer management software experience such as SEO, SEA, CRM and other
- Experience with software and platforms such as CMS, SEO, Google Analytics, WordPress, Mailchimp, Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter and Instagram
Knowledge, Skills and Ability
- Extensive knowledge of marketing, media and digital communications strategies, plans and execution.
- Demonstrated ability to consult, develop and execute a plan of integrated communications/marketing strategy, themes and tactics to meet identified goals with measurable results
- Client-service attention and abilities. Skills include analysis, planning, direction setting and prioritization
- Strong project management, budget management and organizational skills with ability to track and report results
- Strong media relations knowledge and skills
- Excellent proven writing, editing, oral and visual communications skills
- Demonstrated understanding of what makes compelling content for print and digital marketing platforms and websites
- Solid knowledge of digital asset management including analytics and reporting tools
- Excellent problem solving and analytical skills
- Strong creativity and attention to detail
- Excellent teamwork and collaboration skills with internal and external partners
- Strong knowledge and experience with MS-Office – Word, Excel, PowerPoint
- Knowledge of information and communications standards in the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act an asset

Summary of Major Tasks
Develop, manage and execute marketing communications plans for client departments to support CVC’s central brand strategy and brand awareness
- Build awareness of CVC and encourage environmental action by broad audience segments and partners by developing and executing marketing and communications plans that gather research, set goals and execute tactics such as digital and traditional marketing, publicity, promotions, social media and media relations.
- Track and report results. Adjust as required to meet goals and improve outcomes.
- Develop creative concepts, messaging and content to position, promote and market CVC’s brand, services and programs.
- Review and edit marketing communications products (digital and traditional) ensuring adherence to CVC brand tone, approach and writing guidelines, Canadian Press writing style and readability.
- Manage client marketing budgets and expenditures for maximum awareness, growth and exposure.
- Negotiate services with freelancers, consultants, external communications resources as required.
Supervise execution of integrated web and digital marketing content
- Oversee integrated digital marketing practices including content curation, search engine optimization/advertising, CRM, etc. to ensure optimum user experiences and maximum interactions and engagements across digital platforms and channels.
- Analyze and report results.
- Support execution of CVC corporate and personal social media policies and procedures by CVC staff and across all platforms.
- Monitor CVC website(s) to ensure content is appropriate and error free. Inform digital designer(s) for required updates.
Quality Control of Marketing Communications Products and Content
- Oversee brand messaging and program promotion content across digital channels and platforms – web, social media, blogs, intranet, etc.
- Edit marketing communications products (digital and traditional) ensuring adherence to CVC brand tone, approach and writing guidelines, Canadian Press writing style and readability.
Media Relations
- Garner media coverage for client departments and CVC as a whole including writing and distributing media content to appropriate sources.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with media personnel, bloggers and influencers.
- Liaise between reporters and key subject matter experts to answer media inquiries and/or act as media spokesperson when required.
- Understand and monitor current and emerging issues within the environmental sector, climate change, and CVC business and operations.
- When necessary, act as alternate media spokesperson for flood warnings and events, and in emergency situations such as conservation area incidents, to support the Senior Manager, Marketing and Communications.
Administration
- Direct staff work and review performance of three marketing communications specialists who plan and deliver marketing and communications plans, promotions, campaigns and social media programs for departmental clients and CVC staff.
- Mentor and coach direct reports and other CVC staff in marketing communications, digital marketing, social media, media relations best practices and processes.
- Model strong leadership and personal performance in a culture rooted in excellence, cooperation, collaboration and responsiveness.
Vaccine Policy
New employees are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 as defined by the Ministry of Health as a condition of employment and must have satisfied the full post vaccination period required to ensure vaccination efficacy.
