Civil Engineer / Engineer-in-Training
The Opportunity
Ducks Unlimited Canada, a leader in Canadian habitat conservation, is seeking a civil engineer (or engineer-in-training) to design and evaluate wetland conservation projects.
Responsibilities will include:
· Designing and inspecting new wetland projects, major repairs and redevelopments of existing projects
· Providing engineering advice and guidance
· Managing construction
· Assisting in the development of engineering standards and procedures
· Selecting and supervising engineering consultants
· Mentoring, training and supervising new and existing staff
Our ideal candidate will thrive in a team environment and possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills to ensure positive interaction with various stakeholders, including landowners, contractors, NGOs and government. Proven program planning and implementation skills will be required to succeed in this position.
Your experience and knowledge of specialized water resources engineering including hydrology, open channel hydraulics, soil mechanics, structural design, construction and computerized modeling techniques will make you the ideal candidate for this position, which will be located in Brandon, MB. Other locations within Manitoba may be considered for the right candidate.
Requirements
· A bachelor’s degree in civil engineering
· Eligibility for professional or in-training membership with Engineers and Geoscientists Manitoba
· Strong planning, reporting and project management skills
· Strong attention to detail and time management skills
· Strong interpersonal and supervision skills
· An understanding of local agricultural, industry and conservation practices would be considered an asset
· Knowledge of engineering design, hydrology and construction involving heavy equipment
· Experience with GPS, Office 365, AutoCAD, SWMM and HEC programs would be considered an asset
· Experience with ArcGis and RTK
· Awareness of provincial Occupational Health and Safety practices; knowledge of the provincial Water Acts, Dam Safety Regulations and the approvals process would be considered an asset
· Ability to work flexible hours and travel as required
· A valid class 5 driver’s license
The successful candidate will also have an affinity to the outdoors, conservation and the world of waterfowl.
