Position Description:
The Alouette River Management Society (ARMS) is seeking two (2) Education Outreach Program Coordinators for our summer field work, virtual events, and community engagement activities in Maple Ridge/Pitt Meadows region.
Position Responsibilities
The duties of the Education Outreach Program Coordinator will include assisting the Environmental Projects and Communications Coordinator and Maple Ridge Adopt-a-Block Coordinator to:
- Plan, prepare and implement several virtual, drive-through and/or small in-person events such as but not limited to Maple Ridge Canada Day, Welcome Back Sockeye, Rivers Day activities
- Plan, prepare and deliver small-scale stream and/or neighbourhood clean-up events.
- Conduct environmental and residential run-off monitoring in priority neighbourhoods
- Work with staff to implement ARMS’ outreach and communications strategies.
- Create online content for environmental workshops or activities.
- Support social media strategy and online engagement with fellow non-profits and supporters
- Create videos and graphics for YouTube, Instagram stories, and other educational materials.
- Set up and attend outreach booth at priority municipal parks in Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows
- Plan and implement storm drain marking in priority neighbourhoods.
- Follow ARMS and COVID-19 protocol to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all staff, volunteers and public Represent ARMS in a professional, reliable, and enthusiastic manner.
- Work outside, rain or shine, when required.
- Complete other related office work as required by supervising staff
Required Qualifications:
This is a Canada Summer Jobs position and all candidates must:
- Be between the ages of 15 and 30
- Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment.
- Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.
- Some degree or diploma education or strong background in communications, digital storytelling experience. Also required some education or experience in biology, earth sciences, ecology, natural resources
Our ideal candidate will possess the following core competencies:
- Organized and professional with excellent time management skills
- Creative self-starter
- Demonstrated team-player and able to work alone when necessary (e.g., home office)
- Demonstrated social media savvy and strong communication skills.
- Passionate about freshwater ecology, salmon habitat and a working understanding of watersheds and conservation issues
- Willingness to work outdoors rain or shine.
- Willing to learn or have some prior knowledge of the Alouette River Management Society or the Alouette Watershed
Candidates will need to provide their own computer, internet connection, phone, their own car or truck and clear driving history to perform the duties associated with this position.
