Landscape (Conservation Areas) Technician x 2
May 12 to August 29, 2025 (16 week contract)
35 Hours per Week @ $17.70 per hour wage
These positions are dependent on funding.
One contract is being offered from Monday to Friday and One contract is being offered from Thursday to Monday
Working as part of the Ganaraska Region Conservation Authority’s (GRCA) Conservation Lands team, the Conservation Areas Technician will support the maintenance of natural features, grounds, trails and infrastructure at the GRCA Conservation Areas, including the Ganaraska Forest and Forest Centre. The position works from the Ganaraska Forest Centre.
Application Criteria
- This position is restricted to youth 15-30 years of age on the first day of employment.
- Must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of employment.
- Must have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial legislation and regulations.
- Can be a returning student or recent graduate of a post-secondary program in environmental science, earth sciences, conservation restoration or a related discipline.
- A valid Province of Ontario driver’s license is required, and GRCA will obtain a 3-year uncertified driver’s abstract of the successful candidate upon hiring.
Summary of Tasks
- Maintain and enhance the various grounds at the Conservation Authority’s Conservation Areas, including weeding, pruning, planting, garbage removal, grass mowing, and trimming.
- Assist with tree removal near trails and publicly used spaces.
- Assist with trail inventory and inspection.
- General maintenance of equipment, infrastructure, trails, signs, and water control structures.
- Ensure safe public access and use of conservation areas.
- Other general maintenance duties, as assigned.
Summary of Qualifications
- Applicants must have excellent communication, customer service and organizational skills.
- Preference will be given to applicants with proven experience in conservation area maintenance, landscaping or horticulture and plant identification and care.
- The successful applicant must be able to adapt to an environment of change and work well independently as well as in a team environment.
- Applicants should have certification in safe equipment operation and maintenance.
- Applicants must be capable of physically demanding labour and highly aware of safety procedures.
- Applicants must be willing to work in all weather conditions.
- A current Police Vulnerable Sector Check is required.
- Must be able to work safely in accordance with the GRCA Health and Safety Policy.
