About the position:
GSA is hiring a Clean Marine BC Coordinator, who will be responsible for leading our CMBC marina eco-certification and clean boating program. The work involves supporting marinas, yacht clubs, boatyards, fuel docks and harbour authorities in implementing and improving upon their environmental best practices; assessing their operations through the criteria of our Clean Marine BC scoring, conducting site visits, and providing recommendations for improvement; facilitating our marina spill response trainings, and recruiting boating facilities into the CMBC program. You will also lead our clean boating outreach and education work, including: participating in boat shows and other events, and coordinating our Dock Walking project by training and supporting Dock Walker volunteers to distribute our Clean Boater Kits, and conduct our Clean Boater Survey.
The Clean Marine BC Coordinator will do a wide variety of work under GSA’s strategic plan, including: collaborating with organizations undertaking related work; updating publications such as our Clean Marine BC Marina Best Practices Handbook, and Guide to Green Boating; expanding the reach of our boater education through building our volunteer network, providing resources to marinas and other boating marinas; undertaking advocacy work on boating related issues; procuring supplies for, and ensuring the assembly and distribution of our Clean Boater Kits; giving presentations to the boating community. You will work independently, as well as with stakeholders and changemakers around the Salish Sea (virtually and in-person), and you should be comfortable with travel and taking many ferry rides. The work will be dynamic and fast paced, with days potentially being very different from one another.
This position works closely with other team members, and reports to the Campaigns Director.
You will succeed in this role if you are adaptable and organized, able to change focus when necessary while keeping in mind our core priorities; you have networking skills and are able to build relationships with people in the boating community; and you are a strategic thinker who can propel a project forward with vision. The work can be both challenging and rewarding, and you will excel in this position with determination and good communication. The work will involve dealing with a variety of perspectives on environmental protection and risk, and you should be comfortable having and working through difficult conversations.
Experience and Qualifications
We understand that not all experience looks the same, and encourage applicants to share how their experiences relate to the qualities below:

● Building, supporting and working in alliances, coalitions and with volunteers across sectors, groups and communities, including communities that may be marginalized or underserved
● Computer proficiency, including experience with online platforms
● Experience managing several key priorities and projects at the same time
It would also be helpful if you have any of the following skills, qualifications or equivalent experiences, though they are by no means required:
● Comfort in connecting and working with colleagues online, in an organization where staff are not all located in one office
● An ability to write and present plain language communications on scientific and technical topics
Location: Most of the staff at GSA work from their home offices on the unceded territories of many Coast Salish Nations, although there is flexibility to work from either of our offices part time, depending on where the successful candidate lives. The successful candidate must also be available for frequent travel, and must have a consistently reliable vehicle. Our offices are located on the unceded territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish) and sel̓íl̓witulh (Tsleil-Waututh) people (known as Vancouver) and one on the territories of the Snuneymuxw people (known as Nanaimo).
