Summer Student Park Maintenance
Each summer, the Grand River Conservation Areas welcomes visitors to enjoy camping, swimming, boating, tubing, fishing and hiking.
We are looking for hard-working, energetic students that want to be part of our team connecting people to the environment through outdoor experiences. This is a great opportunity to meet new people, work outside in an inspiring setting and gain valuable work experience.
The student Maintenance position reports to the park superintendent and is mainly responsible for keeping the area clean and welcoming for park visitors.
Responsibilities:
1. Assist with the day to day operational duties in the park such as cleaning / sanitizing public washrooms, collecting garbage and maintaining grounds and beach areas and cutting grass.
2. Perform trail maintenance and rehabilitation.
3. Ensure the safe operation and daily inspection of GRCA owned and operated equipment.
4. Operate various hand tools and powered equipment.
5. Carry out all assigned duties in accordance with accepted safety practices of the Authority.
6. Provide quality customer service.
7. Maintain a thorough knowledge of park facilities and activities.
8. Assist with Conservation Area special events.
9. Required to help gate and boat rental staff during busy periods .
10. Frequent sanitization of work areas and following GRCA’s COVID safe working policies.
Qualifications:
1. Interested in outdoor recreational programs.
2. Previous experience working outdoors is preferred.
3. Valid Ontario G or G2 Driver’s licence.
4. Experience with equipment operation including trucks, gators, riding mowers grass trimmers and hand tools an asset.
5. Good interpersonal skills with the ability to work in a team environment.
6. Ability to work with minimum supervision.
7. Some heavy lifting is required, i.e. picnic tables.
8. Must be available to work weekends and evenings.
Work Period: May to Labour Day 2022 (potential of shifts to October)
Pay Rate: $15.00 per hour
Shift: Weekends, Day and Evening Shifts, Statutory Holidays
Up to 40 hours per week
Conservation Areas Locations:
Belwood; Brant Park; Byng Island; Conestogo Lake; Elora Gorge/Quarry; Guelph Lake; Laurel Creek; Pinehurst; Rockwood, Shade’s Mills.
All successful applicants must possess their own Green Patch CSA approved safety boots, be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions and be available to work the duration of the season.
