Green Teams of Canada (GTC) was established as a charity in 2013. Its mission is to connect, build and empower diverse communities through hands-on activities that promote health, well-being and environmental stewardship. It has two programs – the Lower Mainland Green Team and the Greater Victoria Green Team.
To address climate change, we must respond to systemic root issues, such as: social isolation, an increasing sedentary lifestyle indoors and a lack of knowing what tangible actions to take to address climate change. • Develop a sense of belonging to community and place
• Connect to nature
• Realize they have the power to make a difference
• Learn about local environmental issues and actions they can take
• Enhance their ability to work as a team and lead
GTC has demonstrated the effectiveness of its human centred innovative community engagement approach, receiving 11 awards, running 630 activities in 150 green spaces engaging 15,000 mostly younger (aged 12-40) Canadians in Metro Vancouver and Greater Victoria, BC.
