Wildlife Rehabilitation Animal Care Volunteer Interns
Internship dates: April through Oct with most popular dates being May 1st through Aug 31st. Interns who have the ability to stay from May 1st through Aug will be chosen first.
Positions will be filled as we receive and interview applicants.
Internship Duration:
All intern positions are voluntary and full time. Position duration varies from a minimum of 1 months up to maximum of 7 months. Applicants who desire longer internship periods will be considered first. Work schedule is 5 days per week, 45-50 hours per week, (usually 10hr days). Schedule depends on the needs of wildlife patients and is rotating and includes days, evenings, split shifts and weekends.
Animal Care Internships:
Our interns learn a variety of wildlife rehabilitation skills and techniques. Responsibilities will include but not limited to: patient admissions, assisting with species examinations, species specific diet preparations, feeding orphaned babies, gavage feeding, indoor cage and outdoor enclosure cleaning, medication administration, wound management, assisting with turtle egg harvesting and incubating. (depending on admissions) grounds maintenance such as grass cutting, weed wiping, gardening, painting, cleaning, dishes, laundry (wild babies make us a lot of laundry)
Wildlife we rehabilitate are:
Raccoon, fox, bat, skunk, squirrel, opossum, mink, weasel, flying squirrel, cottontail, groundhog, chipmunk, muskrat, coyote, turtles etc.
Accommodations:
We provide free of charge onsite accommodations either in a shared house or work trailer with other volunteer interns, you will have access to kitchen, bathroom and laundry facilities. WiFi is also available. Please state on your application whether or not you would like to be considered for accommodations.
Qualifications:
At least 18 years of age
Commitment to the length of the internship
Must be dedicated and reliable.
Valid driver’s license an asset
Must be able to work in a fast paced environment.
Must commit to work hours according to the needs of our wildlife patients.
Must be team oriented and work well with others.
Must have or be willing to get rabies vaccinations and a titre prior to start date
