Geoscience Coordinator
Full time One Year Term (with the possibility of extension)

Working with IRC’s Innovation, Science and Climate Change Division, the Geoscience Coordinator will be responsible for the facilitation of environmental monitoring of freshwater and its impacts on the Inuvialuit Settlement Region in both administrative and technical capacities. The successful candidate will focus primarily on freshwater monitoring/research initiatives related to geoscience (waste sites), contaminants, and hydrology, as well as shoreline management for all water bodies in the ISR. The Geoscience Coordinator will also operate and maintain research equipment and infrastructure for wet chemistry field work in the ISR.
Key Responsibilities:
• Develop, maintain, and coordinate water quality/quantity monitoring programs.
• Maintain, operate, and provide training on various water equipment, infrastructure, and technologies.
• Provide support for hands-on scientific research and experimentation, including logistics, deployment, maintenance of instruments in the field, data collection, and analysis.
• Provide support on freshwater projects relating to geoscience (waste sites), environmental science, hydrology, contaminants, and watershed management.
• Review and analyze policies relating to freshwater monitoring and consumption within the ISR.
• Provide policy development and technical reviews of documents related to freshwater issues in the ISR.
• Promote and support the development of science-based youth mentorship, technical training, and outreach programs.
The ideal candidate will have the following combination of education, experience, and knowledge:
• Bachelor of Science degree in one of the natural sciences, such as: Chemistry, Geoscience, Geography, Environmental Science, Biochemistry, or related field. Masters in a related field is preferred.
• At least 2 years experience in fieldwork related to water quality and quantity monitoring.
• At least 2 years experience in developing/working on water monitoring, geoscience, hydrogeology, contaminants, and shoreline management projects.
• Experience maintaining and using scientific equipment and infrastructure.
• Experience working with Indigenous communities and organizations.
• Experience with policy review and familiarity with policies on freshwater monitoring and watershed management
