Watershed Monitoring & Data Assistant
May – August 2021 (to be funded through Eco Canada)
$15/hr
We are seeking a dynamic and committed individual for the co-op position of Watershed Monitoring and Data Assistant. The successful candidate will support and assist our Aquatic Biologist with our ‘Aquatic Plant Control’ special project and our Biomonitoring program. Part of this role will also include data management and use of data presentation tools.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide technical and field support to our citizen science volunteers as part of the aquatic plant control project (including use of ‘apps’ on mobile devices.)
- Undertake field sampling and analysis across the identified program areas.
- Present and communicate (formally and informally) with technical and non-technical audiences.
- Provide data management and analysis skills for the aquatic plant control and biomonitoring program, uploading information into a range of software solutions including WISKI, and the provincial biomonitoring network.
- Exemplary client and customer service delivery.
- Support other departments and programs as requested.
Qualifications:

- Currently attending a post graduate program in biomonitoring, aquatic biology or similar.
- Experience or working knowledge in a variety of relevant field sampling techniques and monitoring protocols related to Biomonitoring.
- Experience of managing data using a variety of software programs would be an asset.
- Ontario Benthos Biomonitoring Network and Ontario Stream Assessment Protocol qualifications an asset.
- Fish, aquatic plant, and native vegetation identification skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft applications including spreadsheet and databases.
- Valid M.T.O. driver’s license.
- Pleasure Craft Operators Card required.
- Valid First Aid/CPR certification, or ability to obtain prior to employment.
- Exemplary client and customer service delivery.
Location: A combination of field, office, and remote work.
