Salary $54,000 – $64,000
We are seeking an energetic and enthusiastic individual for the available position of Conservation Areas Technician, who will be responsible for the implementation of our Property Management Plans as they relate to improvement projects, operations, and the development of new business areas. This position will involve customer service, project planning and administration as well as significant field work. The successful candidate will provide ongoing collaboration with other department areas, project partners, and members of the public. This position will also involve the development or update of strategies and management plans for various properties.
Key Responsibilities:
- Demonstrates exemplary customer service; is solution driven, optimizing customer service through continuous improvements to departmental processes, tools, and communications.
- Implementation of ongoing conservation area operations and maintenance of grounds, facilities, picnic areas, campgrounds, trails with a focus on the improvement of client experience.
- Lead the construction, maintenance and improvement of conservation area infrastructure projects.
- Implementation and design of habitat restoration projects on conservation lands.
- Ongoing landscaping duties regarding the grounds and administrative office.
- Routine maintenance of equipment, tools, buildings, and vehicles.
- Establishes and maintains strong relationships and partnerships that develop and enhance service delivery.
- Development of a variety of reports including board reports, property management plans, trail management plans, funding reports, and others.
- Input to the Director, Stewardship and Conservation Lands on annual budget requirements and take responsibility for controlling assigned budgets.
- Input to the development of Health and Safety procedures, task hazard analysis, and other safety related processes.
- Other assignments as requested pertinent to the position.
Qualifications:
- Graduate of a postsecondary program in ecosystem or natural resource management, Parks and Recreation or demonstrated experience with Conservation areas and parks management.
- Experience and knowledge of conservation areas maintenance
- Knowledge and experience in working with landscaping equipment
- Exceptional Oral and written communication skills
- Solid understanding of workplace legislation such as the Employment Standards Act, WSIB, Occupational Health and Safety, Human Rights Act, and AODA.
- Valid M.T.O. driver’s license.
- Chainsaw certification an asset
