The Lab Demonstrator, Biology is responsible for preparing, setting up, and delivering lab experiments to students to reinforce theoretical knowledge through practical demonstration in a lab environment. This position oversees students carry out experiments, delivers lab content, assesses and marks lab examinations and assignments. In collaboration with the faculty, the laboratory demonstrators create lab materials and set-up labs which include equipment, lab exercises, and experiments. This position also is responsible for ordering supplies, organizing field trips, and liaising with internal and external parties to facilitate smooth lab operations.
Qualifications Required:
Education & Experience
Completion of a Bachelors of Science (Biology) or relevant discipline where a majority of course work is in biology (e.g. biochemistry, plant biology, ecology, etc.).
Two (2) years of relevant experience as a lab demonstrator, teaching assistant or acceptable equivalent, preferably in a post-secondary environment.
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Considerable knowledge of the course content, procedures, techniques and methodologies involved in biological laboratory environment.
Must have a working knowledge of Worksafe and WHMIS regulations.

Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, instructors, staff and students.
Ability to advise and direct laboratory aides and student employees.
Ability to demonstrate the use of different equipment and techniques to students.
Ability to understand, interpret and apply department rules, policies and technical materials.
Ability to organize and prioritize work.
Ability to effectively supervise, direct and lead others.
Ability to respond and manage potentially dangerous, hazardous, or emergency situations.
Ability to exercise a high level of initiative and responsibility.
Familiarity with office applications such as MS Word, Excel and Powerpoint.
Preferred specialty: Ecology and Organismal Biology
Monday – Friday 8:30 am to 4:30 pm with variability based on class schedule. Evening classes may be possible.
