About the Role
The ideal candidate will have a degree or diploma in arboriculture, horticulture, biology or environmental science, with field experience, including tree identification skills. The position requires working outdoors throughout the year in sometimes arduous terrain. Office work will require familiarity with Microsoft Office 365, including Excel, Word and Teams. The candidate will have one to two years of arborist experience, although training will be provided for new graduates from arborist or similar programs. This is an 8-month contract position with opportunity for renewal or transition to salaried employment.
What You Will Do
- Tree inventories, including species, dbh, location and condition.
- Database development and maintenance.
- Analysis such as: determining tree protection zones; retention, injury and removal; tree compensation/replacement ratios and costs; etc.
- Interpretation of tree protection by-laws.
- Preparation of Arborist Reports and Tree Protection Plans.
What You Will Bring
- Valid driver’s license.
- Eligible to work in Canada.
- ISA Certification or eligibility for certification.
- Enthusiasm to work outdoors, year-round, in varied terrain.
- Ability to work in a team setting.
- Familiarity with mapping-grade GPS units.
- Winter and cultivar tree identification.
- Health and safety training considered an asset.
