The Opportunity
We are seeking a motivated, community-oriented, resourceful, independent, and highly collaborative network coordinator. You will succeed in this role if you are adaptable and organized, have facilitation skills, are good at planning agendas and tracking outcomes; you can change focus when necessary, while keeping in mind deadlines and key priorities; you are detail-oriented, a strategic systems thinker, and have experience with First Nations communities; you are comfortable coordinating a group of experienced individuals, supporting them in achieving their goals.
About Us
The Maa-nulth Treaty Society is made up of five First Nations surrounding Barkley Sound and Kyuquot Sound/Checklesaht Bay along the west coast of Vancouver Island, and includes: Huu-ay-aht First Nations, Ka:’yu:’k’t’h’/Che:k’tles7et’h First Nations, Toquaht Nation, Uchucklesaht Tribe, and the Ucluelet First Nation (collectively, the Maa-nulth First Nations). These Nations are all signatories to the Maa-nulth Treaty, which affirms each Nation’s authority and responsibility to steward their traditional lands and waters. As signatories, the Nations often work together within The Maa-nulth Treaty Society on initiatives related to their collective interests.
The Maa-nulth First Nations are in the process of further developing their nation-specific stewardship programs and are establishing a Maa-nulth Stewardship Network. The Nations collectively through the Maa-nulth Treaty Society are seeking a Network Coordinator to support the network in undertaking its activities and achieving its goals.
Your Responsibilities
As a Network Coordinator, you will provide coordination support to the Maa-nulth First Nations for a variety of projects and initiatives.
Your day-to-day responsibilities may include:
· Provide nation-specific stewardship program support
· Monitoring coordination, including standardizing monitoring protocols
· Liaise with projects engagement team and support major projects to respond in a collective way
· Liaising with Maa-nulth committees and working groups
· Virtual and in-person meeting coordination, participation and facilitation as applicable
· Data management and analysis
· Support Maa-nulth First Nations as they work collectively to communicate with federal and provincial agencies. This may include preparation of well researched and written submission contributions.
· Identify funding opportunities and develop proposals to secure funding
· Assistance with administration of the Maa-nulth online portal system
· Preliminary analysis of data in R
· Proficient in Microsoft office tools
· Spatial analysis in ArcGIS/QGIS
· Travel to Maa-nulth First Nations to attend and participate in community meetings and workshops.
Requirements
· Master’s degree with a preference for degrees in the natural and applied sciences with a familiarity with marine ecology. (e.g., Ecology, Biology), and strong preference for degrees in both the natural and social sciences (e.g., Resource Management, Environmental Studies, Geography).
· A minimum of 2 years’ experience working with Indigenous communities in North America.
· Strategic “big picture” thinker who excels at coordinating of multiple individuals and groups to achieve their goals, based on the direction and guidance from leaders.
· Familiarity of the environmental management context related to First Nations and Indigenous communities within Canada and BC, and developed relations with BC First Nations.
· Facilitating groups of different sizes, including a diversity of participants, both in-person and virtually.
· Knowledgeable of participatory action research methods and approaches.
· Project management skills, ability to multi-task, and work under tight timelines.
· Strong organizational skills, and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
· Personable, with a flexible, calm manner, and comfortable in group settings.
· Computer proficiency and literacy in Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams).
· Class 5 license with access to a vehicle suitable to access remote communities, 4×4/ SUV (vehicle suitable for winter and rugged driving).
Your differentiating skills may include the following:
· Science communication through visual media using software, e.g., Adobe Illustrator, Premiere Pro.
· Data manipulation (wrangling) and data visualization (graphing); e.g., using R and/or Excel and other emerging tools.
· First Nations policy and planning background.

Salary range: $75-000 – $100,000.
