The Ministry of Forests, Lands, Natural Resource Operations and Rural Development has a mandate to manage specified Crown land and resources in a manner that embraces the economic, environmental and social goals of government. In this role you will be a research scientist and scientific advisor in the field of forestry and natural resource management. There will be a focus on silviculture and silviculture systems that will have you conducting applied research to support science-based decision-making and providing expert professional advice relating to silviculture, silvicultural systems, ecology, climate change, and soils. Key initiatives of the position will support legal and regulatory updates (E.g., Forest & Range Practices Act updates – Forest Landscape Planning), Old Growth, Wildfire Recovery, Wildfire Risk reduction, and Dry Interior Douglas-fir management. You will also conduct forest and natural resource management research, and communicate results to operational, scientific, and technical users, as well as Indigenous and public groups.

Qualifications for this role include:
- Thesis-based M.Sc. or higher (Ph.D. preferred), specializing in a Natural Resource Management related science specialty such as Forest and Silviculture Science, Applied Ecology, Climatology, or equivalent education and experience.
- Registered, or immediately eligible for registration, as a Registered Professional Biologist (RPBio) in BC with the College of Applied Biology within six months of employment. Note: immediately eligible for registration is defined as being able to transfer a current membership from an applicable jurisdiction to the CAB within six months of employment.
- Demonstrated experience planning and implementing research projects.
- Experience producing technical reports and research publications.
