Up to six (6) seasonal auxiliary positions are available at our Tree Seed Centre in Surrey. Auxiliaries will be initially hired for a 28-day introductory training period, during which time the incumbent will be assessed for suitability in the position. Successful incumbents will be extended through the cone and seed processing season, which typically runs from late summer/early fall through to spring, dependent on the annual cone crop. No relocation allowance or accommodations will be provided.
Seed Technician
$23.96 – $27.03 hourly
The Forest Improvement and Research Management Branch (FIRM) consists of headquarters in Victoria, five seed orchard complexes that currently produce 55% of the improved tree seed supply, and the Provincial Tree Seed Centre, located in Surrey. FIRM’s mission is to protect, manage, and conserve British Columbia’s forest genetic resources through excellence in cone and seed services, seed production, policy, planning, decision support, information management, and communication.
The Seed Technician position is responsible for carrying out a variety of general technical activities related to cone and seed operations. These activities ensure the health, quality, and safekeeping of our cone and seed supplies, and play a critical role in maintaining BC’s forests.

Qualifications for this role include:
Secondary school graduation or equivalent.
Prefer one year of experience in a high volume production environment involving a perishable product, or a combination of education and experience, such as one year of related experience and relevant job training courses.
Prefer experience in horticulture, agriculture or forestry.
Valid BC driver’s licence is required.
Valid Lift Truck Certification is preferred.
