Regional Vice President – Alberta Region
Taking care of our environment has never been more important than it is today. The Nature Conservancy of Canada (NCC) is looking for a Regional Vice President – Alberta Region to join a team committed to protecting our most important natural areas and the plants and animals they sustain.
Position Summary
The Regional Vice President (RVP-AB), is responsible for leading the Alberta program of The Nature Conservancy of Canada. The RVP-AB will:
• Communicate a compelling vision that generates excitement, enthusiasm and commitment to NCC’s mission, maintaining Alberta region’s position as a top performer in the organization;
• Raise capital, endowment and operating funds from all sources including governments, industry, foundations & individuals by focusing on building strong relationships with these groups;
• Manage staff to ensure land protection and management objectives are met;
• Develop and implement short and long-range plans consistent with NCC’s mission and vision;
• Ensure that the program has the capacity to effectively conserve priority natural areas in the province;
• Manage risks related to land conservation / ownership;
• Provide effective leadership and management to staff located across Alberta, including remote staff;
• Contribute to national strategic planning initiatives and participate in senior staff meetings;
• Organize and streamline administrative processes to ensure operating efficiencies;
• Provide advice and counsel to the Vice President Regional Operations and the President/CEO relating to Alberta region;
• Work diligently to foster a ‘One Conservancy’ ethic and approach amongst Alberta’s staff and across the organization.
Position Requirements

• Strong leadership skills with demonstrated success managing a multi-disciplinary team;
• Experienced problem-solver who continually strives to make things better;
• Track-record of leading by example, with ablity to foster collaboration and generate buy-in towards new initiatives;
• Committed to the ongoing development of staff; experienced in mentoring and coaching staff as needed;
• Accomplished collaborator and problem-solver with experience working towards long term solutions.
• Ability to speak comfortably and effectively to a variety of stakeholders including governments, donors and staff;
• Experience asserting ideas, and gaining support from others;
• Strong negotiator who takes the time to understand the perspectives of listeners;
• Ability to express complex or abstract ideas, values, and vision clearly; adjust communication style to the audience;
• Fluency in both official languages (English and French) is a definite asset.
Experience:
• Demonstrated competency and experience relating to fundraising, conservation and land management issues.
• A strong working knowledge of various land tenure systems related to the energy, forestry, and agriculture sectors.
• 10 years experience in progressively senior leadership roles in industry, government or the conservation/environmental sector.
