Planning Technician
The Niagara Peninsula Conservation Authority (NPCA) is a community-based natural resource management agency that works to protect, enhance, and sustain healthy watersheds. With 60 years of experience, the NPCA offers watershed programs and services that focus on flood and hazard management, source water protection, species protection, ecosystem restoration, community stewardship, and land management.
The NPCA is one of 36 Conservation Authorities in the Province of Ontario. With 41 Conservation Areas within the Niagara Peninsula watershed, the NPCA manages lands that are held in public trust for recreation, heritage preservation, conservation, and education. Summary of Duties
The Planning Technician is a part of the Planning and Development team assisting in processing planning and work permit applications, responding to compliance complaints and providing front-line customer service and intake of applications. This role will assist with plan and permit review, complete initial screening, including screen mapping and ensure customers have the correct information to proceed with their inquiry.
Duties and Responsibilities
(a) Respond to general planning and development inquiries from consultants and/or the public
(b) Review properties as required, establishing regulatory limit and file histories
(c) Prepare due diligence letters for potential property purchase as requested
(d) Support the intake of permit applications, ensuring information is accurate and up-to-date
(e) Assist Watershed Planners with plan and permit review applications
(f) Provide support for the intake of registered complaints ensuring proper documentation
(g) Monitor and record deliver of violation notices and other related correspondence
Qualifications
· Degree in Environmental Sciences, Planning, Geography or a related field
· Two (2) years’ experience in a municipal and/or Conservation Authority environment performing related duties
· Knowledge of the Conservation Authorities Act, Planning Act and related Provincial Plans and Regulations
· Proficiency with Microsoft Office, ARCGis and CityView (an asset)
· Exceptional customer service skills with the ability to communicate and resolve conflict effectively
· Strong analytical skills with attention to detail
· Ability to multi-task, prioritize and coordinate materials from multiple sources
Salary Range: $31.63 – $37.21/hr (35 hours/week – Union Grade 4 – 2021 rate)
