Immediate opening. This is a one-year, contract position will provide information and education programs to enable professionals and community members to take action against the threat of invasive plants with the most effective safe control practices based on the OIPC’s extensive library of resources, the latest scientific research and practical experience of technical experts. This position includes the development and delivery of new programs, conferences, project management, hosting and event management, advertising, sponsorship and social media, post-event activities including surveys and financial reporting.
Duties and Responsibilities
- increase engagement and awareness of Invasive Plants.
- develop, coordinate, and present training workshops for organizations, professionals, consultants and community members.
- organize conference(s) location, budget, sponsors, speakers etc. (in person and remote)
- develop, coordinate, conduct seminars and presentations at various meetings, conferences, trade shows and events for audiences ranging from children to adults.
- research, write and produce technical documents with the ability to manage all aspects of the project including timelines and budget.
- manage assigned projects from start to finish, including but not limited to developing funding proposals, project implementation, budget management and final reporting.
- coordinate communications via email and social media.
- represent OIPC on committees to facilitate communication, provide updates, feedback, project status and act as an advisor on behalf of OIPC.
- Engage in on-going business development and fundraising efforts where appropriate.
- respond to requests for information.
- provide administrative support as required.
Knowledge and skills
- Excellent communication skills, both written and oral as well as public speaking.
- Experience delivering education programs to the public would be an asset.
- Ability to adapt complex scientific information for diverse audiences.
- Strong interpersonal skills, listening skills and judgement.
- Strategic, creative problem solver, quick learner, ability to consider a variety of viewpoints.
- Strong organization skills and ability to manage multiple tasks and projects while producing high quality results, project management, time management, leadership with peers.
- Personable, team player, experience working with a small team remotely and in person (within Covid19 guidelines). A motivated self-starter.
- Ability to productively engage with others at varying levels of seniority within and outside the organization.
- Willingness to work evenings as required to deliver or support online workshops
- Valid driver’s license.
Familiarity or experience with the following would be an asset,
- MSOffice 365 suite, including Teams,
- Constant Contact or another similar digital marketing software,
- WordPress and website maintenance,
- Social Media tools such as Social Media Management software Loomly or similar,
- e-Learning programs and familiarity with the necessary software
Education
College or university education in biology, environmental science, forestry, agriculture or equivalent work-related experience in the relevant fields. Post-secondary degree or certificate in Education (especially Adult, Experiential, or e-Learning) or Communications are considered an asset.
