The Role
The Digital Asset Manager is responsible for organizing, documenting, cataloguing, archiving and distributing Pacific Wilds digital assets. They are accountable for bringing order to creative content through the effective use of technology, and proven library management practices. Achieved through the maintenance and management of various asset libraries, the Digital Asset Manager is not only responsible for managing visual content but also for all the people, processes and users that interact with those assets.
The Digital Asset Manager is the key knowledge owner for the DAM and MAM systems and acts as the primary liaison between internal and external stakeholders. Key accountabilities include metadata governance, accurate rights usage, and designing and implementing taxonomy and metadata management strategies, workflows and frameworks following Pacific Wild’s best practices.
Responsibilities
- Responsible for organizing, documenting, cataloguing, archiving and distributing Pacific Wilds digital assets.
- Maintaining order of the creative content through the effective use of technology systems, and proven library management practices
- Managing visual content, processes, and users that interact with those assets.
- Director of the server, hard drives, Media Asset Management (MAM) system
- Metadata governance, accurate rights usage, and designing and implementing taxonomy and metadata management strategies, workflows and frameworks following Pacific Wild’s best practices.
- Works with internal team to develop workflows for cataloguing the backlog of assets with proper rights usage; providing on cataloguing and training for all digital systems pertaining to the video catalogue.
- Developing and directing the training and on-going management of the creative collaborative space with the staff and video assets on the server.
- Coordinating purchase proposals for all technology assets relating to video footage, stills, computer setups, and coordinator of information with external IT company.
- Directs and coordinates with Digital Assistant and other usage rights owners on external communications with video and photo requests.
- Coordinates alongside the Creative Director for photo assets and systems such as SmugMug, PhotoShelter, and the Lightroom Catalogue
- Responsible for managing and digitizing any archival media
- Managing issues with remote employees with connection to the servers + access to stills
- Managing the process and upkeep of document management and retention of all digital and physical assets
- Responsible for creating and updating all processes and policies relating to digital asset management and procedures for physical management of drives and server
Required Skills & Experience
- Minimum 3 years’ experience as a digital asset manager, digital library manager or similar role
Demonstrated ability to identify and organize quality footage by scrubbing through extensive RAW footage - Knowledge of cataloguing standards, metadata, and linked data
Experience with PhotoShelter, SmugMug, Kyno Media Asset Management, YoYotta LTO Archiving, and Synology (Network Accessed Server) - Advanced knowledge of Adobe Lightroom Classic and Adobe Premiere Pro– experience in other Adobe software an asset
- Demonstrated experience using Microsoft Word and Excel, and Google suite of applications.
Knowledge of metadata and video sub clipping - Ability to manage a server and experience working with hardware and various different types of software
- Experience managing born-digital records in a digital archive an asset
- The ability to meet deadlines while working independently on multiple projects.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build rapport across all levels of the organization and with external stakeholders
- Strong verbal, written and listening communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with diverse audiences
- Ability to be resourceful in problem-solving and researching a variety of topics
- Experience or demonstrated interest in coastal environments, science, geography, and/or history.
- Experience working in a non profit educational and activist setting an asset
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university required, preferably in computer science, math, software engineering, or a related field.
- ALA accredited Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS) or equivalent preferred.
