Saskatchewan Breeding Bird Atlas – Travel Grant (Remote Surveys Volunteer)
Saskatchewan Breeding Bird Atlas – Travel Grant (Remote Surveys Volunteer)
Birds Canada is looking for individuals and/or teams of birders who are willing to volunteer to conduct surveys for the Saskatchewan Breeding Bird Atlas over short periods of time (around 3-14 days) in remote areas of Saskatchewan (Atlas Regions 15 & 16).
We are looking for back-country savvy individuals/teams with at least one individual able to conduct avian point counts and this grant is especially geared towards teams looking to access areas by canoe or kayak.
The Atlas can help to cover some travel expenses when trips aim to conduct surveys in priority squares between 28 May and 7 July. There are several northern paddle routes that still need to be completed and the Atlas Office is happy to help with planning and logistics. Travel grants are available to Atlas volunteers to help defray trip costs (including float plane), we just need ample time for planning.
Please send your expression of interest as early as possible (but before 31 March 2020) to the Atlas Office via email to jmcmanus@birdscanada.org. If applying as a team, provide the names of all team members. Address correspondence to Janine McManus, and speak to your birding and outdoor experience. Include a description of your bird identification experience, and the names and contact information of two references who can speak to these skills. If you have made trip plans, indicate the dates of anticipated travel and list the remote atlas square(s) you would survey. If you need help with making trip plans, indicated dates of availability and your back country experience, and the Atlas Office can help to plan a trip.
