Volunteer Coordinator Position
The Riverwood Conservancy (TRC) is a volunteer- and member-based charity in Mississauga that provides programs and volunteer opportunities to the community in the areas of nature and environmental education, natural areas conservation, and gardening.
In this part-time (22.5 hours/week) position, the Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for the day-to-day coordination of TRC’s volunteer program – a key component of its successful operations. This position collaborates closely with the TRC team to ensure quality volunteer engagement that fills the needs of TRC’s core functions and program areas. The Volunteer Coordinator develops, implements, monitors, and evaluates the strategy around volunteer recruitment, placement, training, recognition, and overall volunteer experience.
Position Responsibilities:
· Coordinate the Volunteer program at TRC in order to provide opportunities for the community to support the programs and functions that contribute to TRC’s mission;
· Communicate with TRC staff to identify need for volunteers on an ongoing basis;
· Recruit volunteers from the broader community using a variety of appropriate resources and contacts, and adapt recruitment strategies based on the evolving needs of TRC;
· Arrange and conduct volunteer interviews and orientations for new volunteers;
· Develop volunteer position descriptions, and ensure volunteer roles have a plan for any training required;
· Work cooperatively with staff and schools to recruit and track interns and placement students;
· Apply screening tools to ensure all volunteers have appropriate documentation before participation in programs, and track timelines to ensure clear communication with staff about changing volunteer availability or qualifications;
· Develop and implement retention strategies for volunteers, including the creation of regular and relevant volunteer communications and updates;
· Work with the Volunteer Committee to develop, plan, and coordinate meaningful ways to recognize volunteer contributions, and ensure positive volunteer experience;
· Ensure all volunteer contributions are accurately tracked and entered into the TRC volunteer database in the Raiser’s Edge platform;
· Advocate for new volunteer opportunities where they may be effective, and engage with TRC’s current volunteer base to identify areas where volunteers may have interest in expanding their role with TRC;
· Create opportunities for volunteers to provide feedback, and report feedback to relevant staff;
· Attend bi-weekly staff meetings;
Skills and Qualifications:
· Very strong interpersonal and communication skills;
· Enthusiasm for volunteer engagement and community building;
· Demonstrated ability to recruit, work with, and lead volunteers of diverse backgrounds;
· Strong organizational skills and attention to detail;
· Ability to maintain and contribute to online volunteer database, and experience with the Raiser’s Edge platform is an asset;
· Self-motivated and reliable;
· Ability to adapt to changing work priorities and problem-solve as needed;
· Experience with the Raiser’s Edge platform is an asset;
· Training in emergency first aid and CPR is an asset;
· Appreciation of nature and the environment;
· Must be able to work primarily on site at Riverwood.
Start date is expected to be January 16th, 2023. Expected wage is between $24-$29 per hour. Work week is 22.5 hours/week.
