Finance Manager
The Riverwood Conservancy is a charity that connects people of all ages, cultures and abilities to nature at Riverwood – a 150-acre oasis of woodlands, gardens, and ravines located in the heart of Mississauga. Our activities include educational programs for children and youth, gardening and horticulture, and stewardship and restoration of Riverwood’s natural areas.
We are seeking an experienced individual to support the financial operations of our charity, which employs 15 staff and generates $1.2M annually from grants, sponsorships, program fees, charitable donations, and fundraising events. Reporting to the Director of Operations and Finance, the successful candidate will be responsible for the full accounting cycle of the organization.
This is a part-time (~20-25 hours/week) contractor position. Remuneration is commensurate to experience and qualifications.
Duties and responsibilities:
· Managing all aspects of day-to-day bookkeeping and accounting, including but not limited to: A/P, A/R, monthly trial balances and bank reconciliations, receiving and depositing revenue, preparing cheques for signing, review of payroll preparations, and posting all transactions in Quickbooks.
· Preparing monthly financial statements including variance analysis and cash flow analysis
· Preparing year-end forecasts with input from the Director of Operations and Finance and the Executive Director
· Preparing the annual charitable tax return and semi-annual HST rebate
· Assisting the Director of Operations and Finance to prepare the annual operating budget.
· Allocating expenses and revenues in accordance with the budget, and with grant requirements.
· Producing reports as required for tracking of spending and preparation of reports for grants.
· Supporting Fund Development staff in issuing charitable receipts and reconciling revenues between Quickbooks and a Raisers’ Edge CRM database
· Preparing materials for the annual audit and coordinate the audit process
· Maintaining accounting procedures, policies and systems of internal controls to ensure the integrity of all financial systems
Qualifications:
· Strong experience and knowledge of full-cycle non-profit accounting (5+ years).
· Advanced proficiency in Quickbooks and Excel.
· Availability to work on occasional weeknights for events and fundraisers.
· Familiarity with cloud-based Quickbooks is an asset.
· Familiarity with Raiser’s Edge is an asset.
· Familiarity with fund accounting is an asset.
· Strong organizational, problem-solving and analytical skills, along with attention to details, time management, and ability to prioritize in order to meet tight deadlines.
· Interest and support for The Riverwood Conservancy’s mission.
Duties are to commence as soon as possible.
The position will be based in our offices at Riverwood in Mississauga, but could accommodate working partial hours from home. (Due to current work-from-home protocols for COVID-19, the position will temporarily require all hours to be worked from home.) Flexibility in how the weekly hours are scheduled can be discussed.
