MAAP Project Coordinator
The Ontario Aggregate Resources Corporation (TOARC) acts as the trustee of the Aggregate Resources Act and two of its responsibilities are data collection and publication of information on the aggregate industry and rehabilitation of abandoned aggregate properties across the Province of Ontario. TOARC is seeking a Project Coordinator to assist in the management for two of its publicly accessible databases, Surrendered Site Reporting and Mapping Tool and MAAP Online Reporting Tool (MORT). The primary focus of the work will be to identify and coordinate potential MAAP rehabilitation candidate sites, train, and mentor junior field technicians, assist in the assessment/reassessment of former aggregate pits and quarries deemed abandoned under the Aggregate Resources Act (the ARA) and sites surrendered under the ARA and the maintenance and handling of TOARC’s Drone.
The Project Coordinator will be responsible for using TOARC’s drone to complete full site assessments, that may also include a bio-inventory of existing vegetation, measurement of disturbed area, record of soil characteristics, photographic record, property sketch, GPS reading, licence and permit information, current land uses, and description of adjacent land use. The role will include meeting with landowners to discuss TOARC’s programs, coordinating potential rehabilitation project candidates, conducting pre-bid meetings, landowner documentation, completing the applications for permits necessary to undertake the restoration work and completing site specific Species at Risk (SAR) screening.
The Project Coordinator will be responsible for updating all databases with all new information collected, ensuring junior staff are completing tasks safely, efficiently, and providing feedback to the Program Manager. The Project Coordinator will liaison between landowners, NDMNRF, Program Manager and Rehabilitation Supervisor regarding rehabilitation candidacy of sites and rehabilitation options.
The work will include contact with landowners, including ‘cold calling’ and will require extensive travel on assignment throughout Ontario. The candidate, when not on field assignment will be centrally located in Burlington ON.
Skills and Requirements
· 2-4 years of experience in a field technician, project coordinator, or database management role.
· Completed a post secondary institution, with a background in environmental science, geography, landscape architecture, ecology or related field.
· Proficient with computers (Inc. Microsoft office, GIS, AutoCAD is an asset).
· Willingness to travel throughout Ontario.
· Excellent interpersonal and management skills.
· Must show initiative and be able to problem solve.
· Strong organization skills with ability to prioritize, work independently and meet set deadlines.
· RPAS/ Drone Pilot Certificate considered as asset.
· Must possess a valid G Class driver’s licence and meet requirements to rent vehicles from commercial rent-a-car companies.
This is a full time, permanent position commencing on September 5, 2022. Salary will be negotiated in the range of $54,000 – $58,000. We offer group health benefits, matching RRSP contribution plan, on-the- job training, transportation will be provided for fieldwork and employees will be reimbursed for other related travel expenses.
