Community Partnership Specialist
The Upper Thames River Conservation Authority is currently accepting resumes for the long-term contract position of Community Partnership Specialist. This position will be 12 months in length with a chance of renewal.
Duties
- With community partners (Friends of Groups, stakeholders facilitate the identification of environmental needs, develops and implements restoration projects, educational programming and events and organizes community involvement in UTRCA projects.
- Facilitate the work of the Friends of Groups and organizations including developing funding requests, coordinating the implementation of projects and the development of promotional support materials.
- With UTRCA education staff, educate the community about the Authority’s role and the need for a healthy watershed. This includes active leadership in community events such as Children’s Water Festivals, Stream of Dreams Stormwater Education, Green Leaders and Doors Open. Confirm school bookings, review program material with teachers, arrange transportation and actually teach the programs on site and virtually.
- Lead the effort to secure funding for subwatershed projects by preparing proposals and approaching government, corporate and community sources, and identifying and organizing new projects.
- Complete all subwatershed project activity reporting and financial records.
- Participate in and where necessary, coordinate the activities of technical and community committees in subwatersheds where the Authority is involved.
- Report on the progress of the Watershed Projects to all stakeholders including UTRCA Board of Directors and staff and project funders in a timely fashion. Ensure the projects’ web pages are current.
- Lead and assist with public involvement and community action programs throughout the UTRCA watershed. Examples include stream health monitoring and education program, wetlands education program, habitat restoration design program and community forestry.
Qualifications
Education, (degree, diploma, certificates, licenses)
· A degree from a recognized university in geography, biology, environmental science or resources management.
· A satisfactory police records and vulnerable sector screening check
· Current Ontario Driver’s License.
Experience
· A minimum of three years’ experience in a related resource management, communications or teaching role.
Skills, Knowledge and Ability
· Demonstrated understanding of the educational system and familiarity with the stakeholders of the UTRCA.
· A strong natural history knowledge base.
· Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
Compensation and Other Information
$34.43 to $41.89 per hour, 3 weeks paid vacation
OMERS Pension Plan and a Comprehensive Group Insurance package
Full time hours – 35 hours per week
Start Date: as soon as possible
As per UTRCA’s COVID-19 Vaccination Policy, all UTRCA employees are required to be fully vaccinated. As a condition of hire, successful candidates will be required to show proof of vaccination prior to their start date unless medically exempt or otherwise exempt under the Ontario Human Rights Code.
