Reporting to the Associate General Counsel, an employee in this job will provide professional legal advice, support and services to the Water Security Agency (WSA).
Work includes a specific water management focus on contracts and property issues, impacts of constitutional law, federal and provincial legislation, common law, First Nations issues, interagency and intergovernmental issues, major projects and regulatory structure.
You will provide support for and/or pursue organizational legal actions as required including corporate, contract matters, regulatory compliance, human resources, privacy and access matters and aboriginal issues; provide legal advice and counsel to all levels of the organization concerning business practices, policies, corporate initiatives, direction and procedure; and provide input, from a legal and policy standpoint, to Water Security Agency (WSA) employees to ensure effective use of resources while affording the WSA maximum legal protection.
You will also provide legal and practical interpretations of legislation and common law affecting WSA activities with guidance on the impact of existing and developing law on various programs, policies and decisions of the organization; provide input and advice on operational organizational objectives and development of legislation; and research and provide input on changes to existing, or the creation of new, legislation and regulation affecting organizational operations.
The successful candidate shall possess a Degree in Law, have a membership in the Law Society of Saskatchewan and a minimum of 2 years of experience preferably in environmental, corporate, commercial and real property law. A background/interest in Legislation is preferred.
