Summary
Researcher and writer for Indigenous Led Areas Based Conservation plans. This position will help the client successfully nominate, conserve, protect, and develop management plans for the study area. The contractor will be part of a multi-disciplinary team working with two First Nations in Manitoba.

Responsibilities
The qualified hire will be responsible for the following.
1. Familiarize themselves with the current projects, goals, objectives, work products, team members, and project plan.
2. Providing research plans for components of the project work plan.
3. Conducting both shorter-term action research and primary research for written planning documents.
4. Working with the project team to fulfill project goals, objectives, and tasks.
5. Reviewing and editing draft work products by subject matter experts for the project.
6. Writing a variety of products for the project, including:
a) Work plans.
b) Meeting and workshop minutes.
c) Client briefing documents.
d) Summaries of reports.
e) Action research reports.
f) Land management plans.
g) Conservation or protection nomination plans.
h) Conservation plans in the areas of species, terrestrial, aquatic, and traditional resources.
7. Attending and participating in virtual and in-person planning meetings, advisory group meetings, and engagement meetings with communities and government.
Qualifications
Skills
· Excellent research skills. Developed writing ability and multi-disciplinary approach to planning.
· Ability to follow project planning, tasks, schedules, and priorities.
· Preparedness to work with project teams in different locations, backgrounds, and levels of knowledge on various subjects.
· Capacity to read, absorb, and analyze large quantities of multi-disciplinary data and synthesize reports based on project and client requirements.
· Ability to read and understand mapping products for conservation and protection, including resource use, tenure, and traditional knowledge.
Education
· Minimum bachelor’s degree in one of the following areas: Environmental Studies, Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management, Ecology, Indigenous Studies, Geography.
· Preferred master’s degree in one of the following areas: Environmental Studies, Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management, Ecology, Indigenous Studies, Geography.
Experience
· Minimum five years of work experience.
· Must have experience working with or for Indigenous communities, organizations, or tribal councils.
· Ideally, working in land use, conservation, and protection planning with Indigenous communities, organizations, or tribal councils.
