Wildlife Manager – North Baffin

As a key point of contact at the regional level, the position of Wildlife Manager exists primarily to coordinate fulfillment of the Department of Environment’s wildlife programs and administration of its legislated responsibilities in the Region. DOE must maintain partnerships with community, territorial, provincial, interjurisdictional, national and international wildlife management commitments respecting these species, and is the DOE’s primary contact in the region on species management issues. Works with HTO’s, RWO, and regional liaison staff of the Nunavut Wildlife Management Board and is responsible for discharging some of he Government’s main obligations under the Nunavut Land Claims Agreement, particularly Article 5 and 9.
Through proper advice, use of funding, and provision of training and compliance measures, the incumbent ensures that Nunavummiut receive the maximum benefit from available renewable resources, while maintaining environmental stewardship, and without comprising future opportunities. This position issues, processes or has input into permits for wildlife usage including fur and meat dealers, processing plans, outfitters, guides, and wildlife research and observation. Thorough knowledge of research and harvest management techniques, legislation and regulatory processes, enforcement and compliance methods and conservation education.
The successful candidate will have a Degree in Biological Sciences or related field, 4 years of directly related experience in Wildlife Management field level, 3 years directly supervisory experience, time management and financial management experience. be able to travel on the land and effectively use and maintain mobile equipment; Able to use word processing, financial spreadsheet, Power Point, e-mail software and databases. or Diploma in Wildlife management with 6 years of directly related work experience in Wildlife Management at both the field operations and management level; Holds driver’s license and Firearms PAL. Able to communicate in Inuktitut is an asset.

The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktitut, English and French. Fluency in more than one of Nunavut’s official language is an asset.
