Job Description

Minimum of 14 hours training: additional hours will be scheduled based on operational needs

(Maximum 35 hrs/week Wage: $17 per hour) April to June, September to December 2019

The Supply Educator will deliver high quality environmental and heritage education programs to elementary and high school students. The Supply Educator works out of the Conservation Education Centre located in Backus Heritage Conservation Area (BHCA) in Port Rowan and reports to the Outdoor Educator.

Responsibilities:

·         Successfully complete program orientation and instructor training

·         Within an as-scheduled/on-call basis, deliver environmental and heritage education programming to students from K-to-Grade12

·         Support the preparation, maintenance and repair of programming materials and equipment.

·         Assist with program development and review

Qualifications:

·       Post-secondary education in Environmental Sciences, History, Education or related discipline

·       Demonstrated experience in leading education programs to students from elementary to

secondary levels applying a variety of methodologies, particularly outdoor and experiential education

·       Superior organizational skills, detail-oriented and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment

·       The ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with other staff/colleagues

·       Thorough knowledge of the natural history of the Long Point Watershed

·       Provide excellent customer and client services

·       Must provide a satisfactory police record check and driver’s abstract

·       Current First Aid/CPR

Requirements:  

  • Scheduling flexibility and availability; providing support for service delivery
  • Strong verbal communication skills required for the delivery of educational programming and public presentations
  • Working knowledge of the provincial education curriculum
  • Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work  a minimum of 0 hours per week to a maximum of 35 hours per week from 8:30 am – 4:00 pm, Monday to Friday
