Water Resources Specialist/Water Resources Engineer (1 Year Contract)
The Ganaraska Region Conservation Authority has a position open for a Water Resources Technologist/Water Resources Engineer within the Watershed Management Services (WMS) Group.
Location:
This position will be working out of the administrative office in Port Hope located on the corner of County Road 28 and Highway 401.
Qualifications:
- Minimum completion of post-secondary education in an engineering field, including a college diploma in engineering or a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in engineering, water resources or related discipline.
- Possession of Engineer in Training (EIT), Ontario Professional Engineer designation (P.Eng.), Licensed Engineering Technologist (LET), or Certified Engineering Technologist (CET) designation.
- Applicant must have 2-5 years of experience related to water resources engineering, inclusive of a course/research based Master’s Degree, including project management, peer review, and best management practices.
- Working knowledge and experience developing, calibrating, and validating watershed-scale hydrologic and hydraulic models (including proficiency with 1D and 2D HEC-RAS models)
- Proficient in HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, Visual OTTHYMO, and PCSWMM.
- Current knowledge of the Conservation Authorities Act, relevant legislation and natural hazard technical guidelines including River & Stream Systems technical guides.
- Familiar with federal and provincial technical guidelines for floodplain mapping.
- Knowledge of applied fluvial geomorphology and natural channel design is considered an asset.
- Familiar with Municipal Official Plan (OP) schedules and ability to interpret land use for hydrological purposes.
- Familiarity with GIS software such as ArcPro and ArcGIS Online or QGIS is considered an asset.
- The successful applicant must be able to adapt to an environment of change and work well independently as well as in a team environment while maintaining scheduled project timelines.
- Strong time management, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Good interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with the public orally and in writing, in a positive, courteous and respectful manner.
- Must possess a valid Ontario “G” Driver’s License in good standing.
Duties:
- Provide engineering services and support to the WMS team with respect to floodplain mapping projects including hydrologic and hydraulic modelling and associated analyses and report writing.
- Develop, run, calibrate and validate hydrologic models using HEC-HMS, VO and PCSWMM in event-based and continuous simulation modes.
- Develop and run steady 1D and unsteady 2D hydraulic models using HEC-RAS and GeoHEC-RAS
- Analyze rainfall–runoff processes, including infiltration, interception, and storage
- Develop design storms (e.g., Chicago storm, AES, SCS Type II), assess watershed characteristics (area, slope, soils, land use) and calculate associated hydrologic parameters.
Contract position to April 30, 2027
35 hours/week
Annual salary range $79,678 – $98,459 (range dependent upon experience)
