Who We Are
North Bay-Mattawa Conservation Authority (NBMCA) was founded in 1972 by the Province of Ontario. As a community-based, non-profit environmental organization, NBMCA is dedicated to conservation, restoration and sustainable development on a watershed basis, considering human, economic and natural environment needs together in an integrated watershed management approach. NBMCA is one of 36 Conservation Authorities who are members of Conservation Ontario.
NBMCA acknowledges that we are in Robinson-Huron Treaty territory, the Traditional Territory and Treaty Lands of the Nbisiing Anishinaabeg, as well as the unceded and ancestral Traditional Territory of the Algonquin People.
Your Opportunity
Working within the North Bay-Mattawa Conservation Authority’s watersheds, this contract position will assist the Water Resources Specialist with water quality sampling, aquatic habitat assessments, and other fieldwork related to environmental monitoring. The role will also involve some data entry and data management.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
· Ability and aptitude for field work, occasionally under physically demanding conditions or inclement weather
· Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
· Good oral and written communication skills, technical report writing skills, and attention to detail
· Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment
· Valid Ontario driver’s license
· Familiarity with basic aquatic science field sampling techniques and equipment is considered an asset
· Boating, canoeing, and boat-trailering experience is considered an asset
· First Aid & CPR certification is considered an asset
Key Responsibilities
· Water quality field sampling of local streams and lakes
· Benthic invertebrate field sampling and sample processing
· Data digitization, QAQC, and management
· Other duties as assigned
· Must be able to fulfill the full term of the contract, ending in October
Compensation: $21.00 / hour (35-hour week)
Job Duration: June 15 to October 9, 2026
