Duties and Responsibilities

  • Coordinate planning, procurement, scheduling, and monitoring of contractors, consultants, services, personnel, equipment, and materials for efficient delivery of horticultural projects and maintenance and grass maintenance, location include transitways, transit facilities and city-wide locations.
  • Manage all aspects of the project lifecycle: initiation, planning, execution, monitoring, and closure.
  • Develop and implement work plans, designs, and studies for planting, grass maintenance, vegetation management.
  • May be required to oversee tree maintenance contracts
  • Provide functional guidance and training to team members.
  • Direct contractors, assign work and work with consultants.
  • Act as backup for the supervisor when required.
  • Administer full contract lifecycle: preparation, procurement, execution, monitoring, and closure.
  • Prepare specifications for grass maintenance, planting, and vegetation management contracts; analyze bids and make recommendations.
  • Ensure compliance with legislation, regulations, and policies.
  • Monitor contractor performance and adherence to SLAs.
  • Track budgets, coordinate invoicing, and report on expenditures.
  • Deliver timely, high-quality customer service and resolve inquiries from the public, elected officials, and City staff.
  • Prepare reports, briefing notes, correspondence, and presentations for leadership.
  • Build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including Council members and the public.
  • Represent the Division at meetings and participate in committees and project teams.
  • Promote health and safety culture and ensure compliance with legislation (e.g., Occupational Health and Safety Act).

Ensure work quality meets corporate and legislative standards.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Post-secondary degree/diploma in urban forestry, forestry, arboriculture, or related field.
  • Requires ISA Certified Arborist with Tree Risk Assessment Qualification (TRAQ)
  • ISA Municipal Specialist or Board-Certified Master Arborist considered an asset.
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant urban forestry experience.
  • Prior field experience in horticulture is preferred
  • Proficiency with related computer software including INFOR, IFI, Outlook, SAP,  Word and Excel required
  • Strong knowledge of landscape construction principles, arboriculture, urban forestry, and arboriculture.
  • Experience managing projects and contractors, including procurement and budget control.
  • Ability to interpret engineering and landscape drawings, aerial photos and GIS generated maps
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of applicable legislation and health and safety standards.
  • Must hold a valid Ontario Class G Driver’s License or higher with an acceptable driving record
  • Must be willing to obtain a driver’s abstract at your own expense

 

Hourly Rate/Salary: $ 78,602.00 – $ 104,806.00
