OVERVIEW

 

Do you love nature and want to contribute to conservation efforts in the Long Point area? Long Point Basin Land Trust (LPBLT) is seeking an experienced and qualified individual to lead land conservation and protection activities focused on land acquisition and other conservation mechanisms to enhance and expand a connected network of conserved lands in one of the most biodiverse areas of Canada. This is a permanent, full-time position for someone with significant experience in land and biodiversity conservation.

 

LPBLT is a charitable non-government organization with a mission to protect the rich biodiversity and habitats of the watersheds associated with Long Point. LPBLT works to achieve conservation success through land acquisition, management, habitat restoration and species at risk recovery along with associated outreach and engagement.

LOCATION
The Long Point Basin encompasses Norfolk County and parts of Elgin, Haldimand, Brant and Oxford Counties. The main workplace of this position is the Land Trust office in Port Rowan, ON, with the ability to work from home following a schedule agreed upon with the Executive Director. It will also require travel across the Long Point basin to various outdoor locations such as LPBLT properties.

TERM AND SALARY
This position is compensated at $85,000 to $105,000 per annum, subject to experience, based on a regular workweek of 37.5 hours. Evenings and weekends will occasionally be required. LPBLT offers a health benefit package to full-time employees.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

●       Develop and implement landscape-scale plans to guide land acquisition and conservation efforts in LPBLT’s area of interest.

●       Build and strengthen relationships with key landowners, donors, volunteers, partners and the local community to achieve common conservation priorities.

●       Working closely with the Executive Director, lead land acquisition projects working with landowners, appropriate professionals, partners and agencies to complete transactions effectively and efficiently.

●       Explore and apply creative approaches and mechanisms to conserve and protect significant habitat (e.g. Other Effective area-based Conservation Measures)

●       Lead on grants and major gifts to support land acquisition projects. Support land conservation-related communications and fundraising.

●       Establish clear protocols and templates to facilitate a variety of land protection and conservation approaches and to maintain proper records and data.

●       Foster positive relationships with LPBLT Board, staff and volunteers as well as private and public landowners, government agencies, partners and communities across the Basin

●       Develop annual work plans and budgets for conservation planning and land conservation activities and projects.

●       Work closely with the Land Acquisition Committee, including organizing meetings (virtual and in-person), assisting the chair with the agenda preparation and recording minutes.

●       Work closely with the Land Stewardship Manager in determining property-related ecological values, management needs, liabilities and risk

●       Represent LPBLT at external meetings/events.

●       Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director

 

REQUIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

●       Proven track record of leading and scaling conservation-related programs in a fast-paced environment

●       Minimum of 7 years of progressively responsible experience in land acquisition-related activities with at least 5 years in a leadership role.

●       Strong background in ecology, conservation biology or natural resource management

●       Strong operational and project management skills, with the ability to streamline processes and manage multiple complex transactions simultaneously.

●       Exceptional negotiation, conflict resolution, and stakeholder engagement abilities.

●       High proficiency in managing databases, GIS tools, and other digital platforms relevant to land securement

●       Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to represent LPBLT at the executive and community levels.

●       Valid Ontario driver’s license with access to a reliable vehicle.

●       Knowledge of Ontario’s land use planning frameworks, real estate law, and conservation policy is an asset.
