ABOUT THE ROLE

Aquafor is looking for a full-time Arborist to support the firm’s environmental and water resource staff by completing tree inventories in both urban and natural settings. The successful candidate will be ISA-certified with confidence identifying tree species in all seasons, and experience completing inventory tasks (e.g., tagging, survey, condition assessment) and associated reporting (e.g., arborist report, tree preservation plan). The successful candidate may also expect to provide support in other tasks (e.g., ecological inventories, environmental monitoring, topographic surveying) depending on their skills and experiences, so prior experience completing ecological surveys, using monitoring equipment, or completing surveys with GPS or total station hardware is considered to be a strong asset.

Please note that manual tree care labour (e.g., sawing, pruning, climbing, planting) will not be required for this role. However, the successful candidate may be asked to provide oversight to construction crews completing such tasks or to complete monitoring after the fact (e.g., warranty confirmation).

  • Familiarity with GIS and/or AutoCAD software
  • Experience with the preparation of Arborist Reports and similar technical documents

Additional skills considered an asset:

  • Tree Risk Assessment Qualification (TRAQ) certification
  • Experience inspecting construction sites as related to tree preservation and restoration planting (e.g. pruning, TPZ inspections, warranty inspections, etc.)
Experience completing ecological field investigations (e.g.: Ecological Land Classification evaluation of vegetation communities; three-season botanical inventories; aquatic habitat assessment; breeding bird surveys; calling amphibian surveys)

  • Experience with the preparation of landscaping/planting plans or environmental restoration plans
  • Experience addressing permit and approval requirements related to Species at Risk
