Tallgrass Prairie – Ecological Restoration Technician
About the Position:
We are seeking a dedicated Prairie Restoration Technician to join our team in revitalizing one of the largest native tallgrass prairie projects on private land, in Ontario. This hands-on role offers the opportunity to participate in meaningful conservation work while developing specialized skills in one of North America’s most threatened ecosystems.
Key Responsibilities:
Implement prairie restoration techniques including seed collection, processing, and planting
Remove invasive plant species using mechanical and chemical methods
Monitor plant communities and wildlife populations
Operate and maintain field equipment and tools
Assist with vegetation surveys and data collection
Qualifications:
Diploma or bachelor’s degree in environmental science, ecology, conservation biology, or a related field or one that is underway.
Previous practical experience in ecological restoration, land management, or conservation
Knowledge of native and invasive plant identification
Ability to work outdoors in variable weather conditions and challenging terrain
Valid driver’s license and ability to operate field vehicles
Experience with hand tools and small power equipment
Basic understanding of tallgrass prairie ecosystems
Physical Requirements
Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
Comfort working in various weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, wind)
Stamina for full days of physical fieldwork
