TERM Employment Opportunity

–      Wildlife Manager –

Location: Kugluktuk, Nunavut

Type of Employment: This is a four (4) year term position, with possibility of extension.

The Kitikmeot Inuit Association (KIA) has an immediate employment opportunity for a Wildlife Manager within its Department of Lands and Environment located in Kugluktuk, Nunavut.

The Wildlife Manager will support the Director of the Lands, Environment, and Resources Department with the oversight of matters that affect Inuit Owned Land and Inuit interests on Crown land. The KIA owns 125,405 km2, or 20 percent of the surface lands in the Kitikmeot Region of Nunavut. The position will help the KIA manage wildlife issues that intersect with other KIA interests, contributing to a sustainable development vision. Important responsibilities of this job include liaison with regional wildlife organizations, Nunavut Tunngavik Incorporated, Nunavut Wildlife Management Board, government, and transboundary wildlife groups; reviewing wildlife and habitat reports and assessments; representing the KIA at multi-party meetings to advise Department Staff of issues and incorporating traditional knowledge into wildlife discussions. Duty travel will be frequently required.

Minimum qualifications for the position are a Science or Environmental University Degree from a recognized Post-Secondary Institution plus three (3) to five (5) years of professional experience. Equivalencies may be considered. Skills needed for the job are an organized mindset, use of MS software, proven verbal and written communications as well as independent problem-solving abilities. Fluency in Inuinnaqtun or Inuktitut and GIS knowledge would be assets. Priority will be given to Inuit beneficiaries who meet the qualifications for the job as specified under Article 23 of the Nunavut Agreement.

Salary Range:  $120,149 – $148,640 plus a northern allowance of $25,945.75, a housing allowance of $6,289.88, and Vacation Travel Assistance and other employment benefits.

Relocation assistance is available as well as housing Kugluktuk.
