Job Type: Full Time/Permanent

Purpose:
The Project Manager is accountable for the end-to-end delivery of complex industrial, municipal, and private ecological restoration projects. This role is responsible for planning, executing, monitoring, controlling, and closing multiple concurrent projects while achieving defined scope, schedule, cost, quality, safety, and environmental outcomes.

The Project Manager applies PMI-aligned project management principles, professional judgment, historical data, and industry best practices to deliver projects that meet contractual obligations, achieve internal financial targets, and contribute to long-term ecological function and resilience.

Status: Reports to Operations Manager
Location: Rockyview County, Alberta

Duties and Responsibilities:  

PROJECT DELIVERY AND GOVERNENCE

  • Own full lifecycle project delivery in accordance with PMI standards, including initiating, planning, executing, monitoring & controlling, and closing.
  • Develop and maintain Project Management Plans, including scope, schedule, cost, quality, resource, communications, risk, procurement, and stakeholder management components.
  • Establish and actively manage project baselines (scope, schedule, cost) and lead corrective actions when variances occur.
  • Implement formal change control processes, including impact analysis, documentation, approvals, and communication.
  • Identify, assess, and actively manage project risks and opportunities, maintaining risk registers and mitigation strategies.
  • Ensure project deliverables meet defined quality standards, contractual requirements, and regulatory obligations.
  • Lead structured project close-out, including financial reconciliation, lessons learned, and as-built / technical documentation.

FINANCIAL AND COMMERCIAL MANAGEMENT

  • Maintain full accountability for project financial performance, including cost tracking, forecasting, margin protection, and cash flow.
  • Monitor actuals versus budget and proactively address cost, schedule, or scope risks that threaten financial targets.
  • Support progress claims, invoicing inputs, and change order pricing in coordination with Operations and Finance.
  • Ensure internal financial targets are consistently met across assigned projects.

CLIENT MANAGEMENT

  • Serve as the primary point of accountability for clients and external stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Develop and execute stakeholder engagement and communications plans appropriate to project complexity and risk.
  • Lead regular client meetings, site walks, and progress updates, ensuring expectations are managed and agreements documented.
  • Manage subcontractor relationships, performance, and contractual obligations.

FIELD EXECUTION AND OVERSIGHT

  • Translate project plans into clear, executable direction for field teams and subcontractors.
  • Conduct regular site inspections to verify safety, quality, environmental compliance, and progress.
    Provide technical leadership related to ecological restoration, construction sequencing, and environmental best practices.
  • Interpret and apply applicable environmental legislation, permits, and regulatory requirements.

LEADERSHIP AND COMMUNICATION

  • Provide leadership and direction to Restoration Crew Foremen and field teams assigned to projects.
  • Ensure all personnel are properly oriented to scope, safety, environmental policy, and quality expectations.
    Establish clear performance expectations, progress metrics, and reporting rhythms for project teams.
  • Collaborate closely with Operations, Safety & Compliance, Supply, and Equipment teams to ensure resource readiness.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of project management systems, standards, and KPIs.

OTHER DUTIES

  • Support installation and field activities as required to ensure project success.
  • Provide input to Operations Manager and Directors regarding emerging opportunities, risks, and sector developments.
  • Maintain required training, certifications, and professional development
  • Ensure company vehicles, tools, and equipment are used safely and responsibly.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Project Management Professional (PMP®) certification – required
  • Strong working knowledge of PMI / PMBOK principles and best practices
  • Minimum 3 years of progressive project management experience, preferably in construction, restoration, infrastructure, or environmental services
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant field experience in ecological restoration, horticulture, landscaping, or construction
  • Demonstrated experience managing multiple concurrent projects with material financial responsibility
    Experience with subcontractor procurement, scheduling, and performance management
  • Proficiency with Google Workspace and project controls / tracking systems
  • Ability to interpret construction drawings, specifications, GIS data, and mapping software
  • Strong understanding of health, safety, and environmental compliance in field-based work
  • Backcountry and adverse-conditions driving experience. Class 5 drivers license and clean drivers abstract required
  • Strong stakeholder management and client-facing communication skills
  • Financial acumen and comfort managing budgets, forecasts, and margins
  • Structured, analytical, and solutions-oriented decision-maker
  • Ability to lead in dynamic, outdoor, and operationally complex environments
  • Physically capable of field work, including travel over uneven terrain and exposure to challenging weather

Pay Level: [Level 3]

Placement depends on experience and education.  Pay level 3 ranges from $50,000-$80,000 (hourly or salary) and includes a benefits package and other discretionary benefits.
Project Manager may be eligible for elevation to a senior level [Pay Level 4] at 5 years of employment
