ABOUT THE ROLE

Reporting to the Senior Coordinator, Education, this position supports and provides leadership by delivering CVC’s Community Stewardship programs, including Branch Out, Conservation Youth Corps, and other community initiatives. Crew Leaders engage youth in environmental education, conservation, and restoration activities through hands-on community events such as tree planting, invasive species removal, litter cleanups, and similar initiatives. Through this work, they support CVC and municipal partner strategies that advance local climate action in response to declared climate emergencies, while motivating and mentoring youth to care for and restore natural spaces. This role plays an important part in building environmental literacy, leadership skills, and a strong connection between people, the land, and human well-being.

Crew Leaders prepare for and deliver programs that engage diverse audiences across the Credit River watershed. Responsibilities include loading and unloading equipment and trailers, driving large vans and trucks with trailers, preparing sites and event materials, organizing planting supplies, and guiding and mentoring participants with a positive, encouraging attitude.

In addition to event delivery, Crew Leaders support administrative and asset management tasks such as data entry and analysis, communications and social media support, and maintaining equipment inventories. The role requires regular travel throughout the watershed to green spaces, parks, and schools.

Candidates should enjoy working outdoors with youth in physically demanding roles and variable weather conditions, have a strong interest in nature, and feel confident engaging with community groups. The ideal candidate brings a positive attitude, is detail-oriented, adaptable, and enthusiastic about encouraging participation. This position requires strong organizational and problem-solving skills, as well as the ability to work independently and as part of a close-knit team. Experience in the environmental field is considered an asset.

CVC is committed to health and safety, and Crew Leaders are expected to take responsibility for the well-being of themselves, volunteers, and co-workers.
